Our team is focused on evolving the state of the art and bringing emerging automation & autonomy technology into the harsh production environments found on typical mining and construction jobsites. As a software developer, you’ll focus and collaborate with team members to develop the core autonomy development framework used in critical on-board applications at Caterpillar that provide value to our customers.

* What You Will Do:

** The Autonomy Development Framework Developers will participate in various aspects of the development process including design, documentation, coding, product quality, and validation
* Develop production quality C++ software
* Support requirements generation and architecture decisions and tradeoffs
* Develop application framework and middleware while following work standards
* Support functional safety software design and validation process
* Collaborate with team members to execute on goals
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate hardware and software solutions
* Operate test benches and manage tasks using Azure Dev Ops
** What You Have:**
* ** Problem Solving:
** Working knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational, or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.
* ** Software Development Life Cycle:
** Working knowledge of software development life cycle; ability to use a structured methodology for delivering and managing new or enhanced software products to the marketplace. Strong understanding of software engineering principles; familiar with Agile methodologies and iterative development practices.
* ** Programming:
** Working knowledge of relevant programming languages and tools; ability to test, write, design, debug, troubleshoot and maintain source codes and computer programs. Comfortable working with version control tools like Git.
* ** Technical Troubleshooting:
** Working knowledge of technical troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, recognize, and resolve technical issues on hardware, software, application or operation.
** Consideration for Top Candidates:
*** Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field from an accredited institution.
* Skilled at programming in C++, with experience in developing and debugging software applications using this language
* Experience developing in Linux environments
* Experience in development of device drivers, hardware diagnostics, non-volatile memory interfacing, board initialization, & communication networks such as J1939/CAN/Ethernet
* Experience with industry-standard tools such as Git, Git Hub, and Azure for version control, collaboration, and cloud services
* Experience with ROS (Robot Operating System) development;
Familiarization with core robotics principles
* Working knowledge of the concepts, technologies, and methodologies of artificial intelligence (AI)
* Strong foundation in mathematics and engineering fundamentals
