Principal Engineer, Software Engineering

Hamilton Sundstrand Corporation d/b/a Collins Aerospace has an opening for a Principal Engineer, Software Engineering in Rockford, IL.

• Responsible for software development life cycle (plan, design, verify, certify) embedded software per aerospace standards (DO-178 typical, design assurance levels A to
  
  C).
• Design and implement build procedures that support hardware and software product development.
• Design, develop, document, test, and control diagnostic systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions.
• Conduct multidisciplinary research and collaborate with equipment designers on the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product and commercial software.
• Determine end‑user needs by analyzing system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, and input data acquisition.
• Innovate, design, develop, and implement technologies, components, sub‑systems, machines, tools, and systems to ensure compliance with specifications, requirements, and customer guarantees across applicable operating conditions.
• Ensure hardware and software standards are met.
• Ensure novel ideas and implementations are captured and protected using IP processes and tools.
• Provide technical leadership, training, and oversight.

• At least a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or related field and at least 8 years of progressive experience as a Software Engineer in Aerospace, Defense, Automotive, or Medical industries.
• Alternatively, a master’s degree or equivalent and at least 5 years of experience as a Software Engineer in the same industry sectors.
• Minimum 5 years of experience with embedded C programming.
• Minimum 3 years of experience leading teams of 10‑20 people.
• Minimum 3 years of experience with industry standards for the full software engineering lifecycle of safety‑critical systems such as DO‑178B/C.
• Minimum 3 years of experience with software development for Generator or Bus Power Control Units.
• U.S. citizenship or lawful status with no requirement for immigration sponsorship.
