Job Description - Certified Nursing Assistant - Phlebotomist (2602699)
Provides each of the assigned patients with routine daily nursing care and services in accordance with the patient’s assessment and care plan, and as directed by the nurse supervisor. Under the direction of the manager, performs daily phlebotomy activities accurately, professionally and in a timely manner.
Key Responsibilities- Perform all duties and responsibilities according to the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) job code 0101, Department 6300 for HCC.
- Handle laboratory data collection systems and equipment to ensure requests for laboratory tests are properly ordered, cancelled, and charged.
- Correctly identify all patients to avoid mistakes that can affect treatment.
- Perform blood collections from patients, mostly older age group.
- Perform specimen processing, preparation and distribution of specimens.
- Maintain constant awareness of policies and procedures, ensuring enforcement of infection control processes when working with or around patients.
- Effectively communicate with patients, reassuring them and making them feel at ease when present; communicate on the phone and face‑to‑face courteously, promptly, and politely; document all information correctly.
- Order and maintain laboratory supplies.
- Keep all work areas clean and properly stocked.
- Handle information with discretion and always maintain confidentiality.
- Coordinate and consult with lab manager regarding lab‑related issues.
- Work independently and in a team environment.
- Comply with all OSHA, CLIA, and federal regulations.
- Maintain a professional appearance and attitude.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and other software programs.
- Participate in center/agency surveys (Licensure/JCAHO) and any subsequently required reports.
- Attend and participate in continuing educational programs to keep abreast of changes in the field and to maintain current license/certification, as required.
- Attend and participate in mandatory in‑services.
- Respect patients/residents’ rights to fair and equitable treatment, self‑determination, individuality, privacy, property and civil rights, including the right to wage complaints.
- Comply with corporate compliance program.
- Report job‑related functions/tasks that involve occupational hazards, including exposure to blood and body fluids.
- Follow established safety regulations, including fire protection & prevention, smoking regulations, infection control, etc.
- Follow established safety procedures when performing tasks and/or working with equipment.
Minimum
Education Required:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Graduate of an approved phlebotomy training program.
Minimum Experience
Required:
A minimum of 1 year of phlebotomy experience required with geriatrics.
Minimum Licensure/Certification Required by Law:
Active, current, and unrestricted Certified Nursing Assistance certification in the appropriate state. Should be a certified nurse assistant in accordance with the laws of the issuing state. Driver’s license.
