The 911 Dispatcher role at Knox Regional Communications Center is a full-time, on-site position located in Rockland, ME. In this role, the dispatcher receives and prioritizes emergency and non-emergency calls, gathers critical information from callers, and dispatches appropriate emergency services such as police, fire, and EMS. The dispatcher monitors communication channels, maintains accurate and timely records in computer-aided dispatch systems, and follows established protocols for emergency medical dispatch and public safety coordination.
Day-to-day tasks include remaining calm under pressure, providing clear instructions to callers, communicating with field units, and collaborating with other team members and agencies to ensure efficient incident response. The position requires adherence to confidentiality requirements, compliance with center policies, and participation in ongoing training and performance evaluations.
- Candidates should possess skills in Emergency Medical Dispatch and Emergency Services to follow protocols and support first responders effectively.
- Candidates should possess skills in Dispatching and Communication to manage call intake, radio traffic, and coordinated response activities.
- Candidates should possess skills in Customer Service and Communication to interact professionally with callers in distress and the public.
- Ability to remain calm, make sound decisions, and prioritize tasks in high-stress situations.
- Strong attention to detail, accurate data entry, and proficiency with computer and telecommunications systems.
- Willingness to work shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as required for 24/7 operations.
- High school diploma or equivalent; prior public safety, dispatch, or emergency services experience is beneficial.
- Ability to pass background checks, drug screening, and any required certifications or training programs.
