This Engineer position works on the Rockland-based vessel providing professional services in the operation, maintenance, and repair of diesel and gas engines and auxiliary equipment on marine vessels. Responsibilities include monitoring all operating propulsion machinery and electrical generating facilities onboard, inspecting, adjusting, and maintaining machinery in accordance with established operational and safety standards. The engineer also performs security functions under the Maritime Transportation Security Act of 2002 and provides information and direction to the public as necessary.
Must be familiar with Ferry Service vessel and engine room operations. Must be licensed with the USCG as a third assistant engineer or greater or possess a DDE 4,000 HP endorsement. Clean and maintain the engine room, auxiliary spaces, and various other systems on the vessel. Performs other duties as required by immediate supervisor. Must be in possession of a valid TWIC or be able to obtain one within 30 days.
Minimum QualificationsExperience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of marine engines and auxiliary equipment.
Required to have a current TWIC Card – Transportation Worker Identification Credential Card.
Licensing / Registration / Certification RequirementsU.S. Coast Guard license as a Marine Engineer for the high‑power vessel owned by the State.
