Position Overview:

Phelps Elementary School is seeking a Long-Term Substitute EL tutor to support our English Learner (EL) students and their families. The EL tutor will work closely with the EL teacher and building administrator to provide instructional, communication, and family-engagement supports that ensure student success.

Required Qualifications:

Fluency in both Portuguese and English to effectively support students and families.

Responsibilities Include:

Provide instructional support to EL students as directed by the building administrator and EL teacher (e.g., vocabulary and grammar practice, flashcards, review activities).

Build strong, positive relationships with students and families.

Serve as a liaison between families and the school to support communication and engagement.

Communicate with families through text, Whats App, and phone calls as requested.

Assist classroom teachers with interpreting needs.

Schedule conferences with families and provide interpretation during meetings.

Share any important information from parents (e.g., sick calls, concerns) with the Principal, Nurse, or School Secretary.

Maintain an accurate log of all family communications.

At the end of the school year, contact families to assist with completing lunch and bus forms for the following academic year.

Consultation and collaboration with classroom teachers and EL team.

Any and all other duties as may be assigned by the building administrator.
