Special Education Teacher
Resource Room Model at Phelps Elementary
We are seeking a compassionate, highly-skilled special education teacher to provide instruction and support for students with disabilities in a highly structured, resource room classroom model. The ideal candidate demonstrates a commitment to fostering academic, social, emotional, and behavioral growth, and excels at creating and maintaining organized systems that meet diverse student needs. The teacher will work closely with and oversee a team of paraprofessionals to ensure consistent, high-quality support throughout the day with a combination of support within the general education classroom and for academic, communication, and/or social skills support within the resource room setting.
JobQualifications
- Proven experience working with and supporting students with diverse learning needs and disabilities
- Strong background in implementing behavioral strategies or formal training in behavior management
- MA Moderate Special Education License
- Ability to collaborate with general education staff, service providers, and paraprofessionals in an efficient manner to meet the needs of students
- Self‑motivated and solution‑focused
- Knowledge of the IEP process including assessment, evaluation tools, writing and interpreting IEPs
- Able to design and implement specialized instruction to meet student learning goals as driven by IEPs
- Fully certified and trained in Wilson or Orton‑Gillingham
- Lead paraprofessionals working with students towards achieving academic and social successes
- Frequent communication with families
- Behavior support using de‑escalation strategies
- Ability to be trained in Safety Care/physical management techniques
- Consultation and collaboration with regular education teachers & related service staff
- Any and all other duties as may be assigned by the building administrator
