Job Description
  • Provide specialized instruction to middle school students with significant learning, developmental, behavioral, and/or functional needs.
  • Create a structured, supportive, and predictable classroom environment that promotes student success, safety, and independence.
  • Teach functional academics, including practical reading, writing, mathematics, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Develop students' independent life skills, including organization, personal responsibility, self-care, time management, and daily routines.
  • Provide instruction in social-emotional and interpersonal skills, including communication, self-advocacy, emotional regulation, conflict resolution, and appropriate peer interactions.
  • Differentiate and modify curriculum, assignments, assessments, and instructional materials to meet individual student needs.
  • Develop, implement, monitor, and collect data on IEP goals and objectives, using student performance data to adjust instruction and interventions.
  • Collaborate effectively with general education teachers, special education staff, paraprofessionals, related-service providers, counselors, behavior specialists, and administrators.
  • Provide clear direction, modeling, and support to paraprofessionals working within the Life Skills classroom.
  • Utilize positive behavior supports, reinforcement systems, de-escalation strategies, and individualized behavior plans when appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate documentation regarding student progress, accommodations, services, behavioral data, and IEP implementation.
  • Communicate consistently and professionally with families regarding student progress, successes, concerns, and areas for continued growth.
  • Participate actively in IEP meetings, Student Support Team meetings, transition planning, and other collaborative problem-solving processes.
