The Controller will serve as a key financial leader within Safety Marking LLC, overseeing all accounting functions, strengthening internal controls, and ensuring accurate, timely financial reporting. This role requires a hands‑on, detail‑oriented professional with strong accounting experience and the ability to operate in a dynamic, fast‑paced environment.
We are seeking someone who enjoys partnering with field and operations teams, understands financial planning and analysis, and has led their own team.
Leadership & Team Management- Supervise and mentor accounting team members (AP, AR, payroll).
- Foster a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with operations, equipment, and HR teams across multiple locations.
- Lead the month‑end, quarter‑end, and year‑end close process with accuracy and timeliness.
- Prepare and review financial statements, job‑cost reports, WIP schedules, and variance analyses.
- Maintain compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies.
- Oversee job costing, project tracking, overhead allocations, and margin analysis.
- Work closely with project managers to ensure accurate, real‑time job performance reporting.
- Monitor WIP schedules and support bonding and lending requirements.
- Build and manage annual budgets and roll forecasts with the CFO.
- Develop financial models as needed by the CFO and Board of Directors.
- Identify financial trends and present insights into leadership for decision‑making.
- Maintain and strengthen when necessary internal controls across AP, AR, payroll, field reporting, and equipment costing.
- Improve workflows, when necessary, by enhancing ERP usage or other third‑party software.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 5-7+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Proven experience managing a finance or accounting team.
- Proficiency with accounting systems and Microsoft Excel.
- Background in construction accounting, job costing, and WIP reporting.
- CPA or CMA certification.
- Experience in heavy civil, specialty construction, or DOT‑related contractors.
- Familiarity with fleet‑based operations and equipment costing.
- Exceptional attention to detail is paired with strong strategic thinking.
- High sense of ownership and accountability.
- Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, growing company.
- Clear communicator who can work effectively with both office and field teams.
- Process‑improvement mindset with a passion for operational excellence.
- Full‑time Monday – Friday 8:00 AM – 6 PM
- May be flexible within core office hours (8 hrs./day, 40 hrs./week)
