Quality and Safety Director
Job Description
The Quality and Safety Director leads the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of a comprehensive safety and quality program across all construction operations. This role promotes a strong safety culture, ensures regulatory compliance, and drives consistent quality standards on high-impact, technically complex projects. The director works closely with project teams and stakeholders to prevent incidents, enhance performance, and support long-term organizational growth.
Responsibilities
+ Promote and enforce a positive, company-wide safety culture across office and field operations.
+ Develop, schedule, and conduct toolbox talks and formal safety training sessions for employees and subcontractors.
+ Perform routine and follow-up job site safety inspections to identify hazards, verify compliance, and track corrective actions.
+ Lead safety committee meetings and participate in pre-construction safety planning for new projects.
+ Investigate incidents, near misses, and OSHA recordable events, including conducting thorough root cause analyses and recommending preventive measures.
+ Maintain, update, and improve the company Safety Manual and internal safety policies to reflect current regulations and best practices.
+ Ensure compliance with OSHA and other applicable safety regulations, standards, and client-specific requirements.
+ Order, track, and manage personal protective equipment (PPE) and other safety equipment to ensure availability and proper use.
+ Conduct site safety orientations for employees and subcontractors, clearly communicating expectations and project-specific safety requirements.
+ Maintain accurate, organized safety training records and documentation for audits, reporting, and continuous improvement.
+ Collaborate closely with project teams, owners, and subcontractor safety representatives to align on safety goals and practices.
+ Enforce corrective actions when safety standards are not met, following up to confirm issues are resolved and improvements are sustained.
+ Write, implement, and manage an integrated quality and safety program that supports consistent, high-quality project delivery.
+ Support construction quality management efforts by aligning safety and quality processes with project requirements and industry standards.
+ Apply experience in construction safety management, including work on complex and technically demanding projects, to anticipate risks and drive proactive solutions.
Essential Skills
+ Proven experience in construction safety management, with a strong understanding of field operations and job site hazards.
+ Demonstrated expertise in safety management and construction safety practices, including implementation of safety programs on active projects.
+ Experience in construction quality management, including integration of quality and safety processes.
+ Familiarity with USACE-related requirements and standards, particularly as they relate to construction safety and quality.
+ OSHA 10 certification (required).
+ OSHA 30 certification (required).
+ Ability to write, implement, and manage a comprehensive quality and safety program.
+ Strong skills in conducting safety training, toolbox talks, and safety orientations for diverse field and office personnel.
+ Proficiency in performing job site safety inspections, documenting findings, and driving corrective actions.
+ Capability to investigate incidents and near misses, perform root cause analysis, and develop effective preventive measures.
+ Solid understanding of OSHA regulations and other applicable safety standards relevant to construction.
+ Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with project teams, owners, and subcontractor safety representatives.
+ Attention to detail and strong organizational skills to maintain accurate safety training and compliance records.
Additional
Skills & Qualifications
+ Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Risk Management, Safety Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
+ Experience working on unique, high-impact, and technically complex projects is highly beneficial.
