Position: Student Services Technician (Basic Needs & Support Services)

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision, the incumbent performs program, technical, and administrative duties for the Student Services area, providing information, training, and assistance to students, staff, and the public. The role supports the department’s programs, manages data and documentation, coordinates events, and ensures compliance with regulations.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Serve as point of contact for students, staff, and the public regarding department services.
  • Verify and review applications, records, and reports for completeness and compliance.
  • Compile and analyze statistical data; prepare required reports.
  • Maintain confidential record‑keeping systems and gather narrative, statistical, and financial data.
  • Coordinate campus and community events, workshops, presentations, and meetings.
  • Coordinate communication and marketing with other departments and external partners.
  • Perform clerical and administrative duties, including preparing correspondence, reports, and promotional materials.
  • Provide training to staff on new regulations and procedures.
  • Use case‑management strategies to reach students, maintain databases, and monitor support services.
  • Distribute services such as textbook funds, grants, meal cards, bus passes, and parking permits.
  • Liaise with external agencies (e.g., California Department of Rehabilitation, Cal Fresh, local food banks).
  • Assist students with form completion, registration holds, and program applications.
  • Support co‑workers and staff as needed.
  • Determine program eligibility, coordinate onboarding, and maintain student progress.
  • Perform general clerical accounting duties related to financial processes.
  • Provide onboarding and training support for new staff or temporary employees.
  • Perform any related duties that support overall objectives.
  • EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE GUIDELINES
    • High school diploma or GED, supplemented by college coursework.
    • Two years of increasingly responsible clerical and program support experience with frequent customer contact.
    • California valid driver’s license.
    QUALIFICATIONS
    • Knowledge of department operations, federal and state regulations (FERPA, ADA, FHA), and external agencies.
    • Ability to provide assistance, training, and information to students and the public.
    • Technical, program support, and clerical proficiency.
    • Experience coordinating workshops, seminars, and special events.
    • Research, compile, and analyze data; screen and assess student needs.
    • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
    • Maintain confidentiality and apply district policies.
    • Work independently and collaboratively with diverse populations.
    PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

    Work is primarily in a standard office setting. The position may require evenings, nights, weekends, and occasional travel. Physical requirements include standing or sitting for prolonged periods, occasional walking, and lifting light to moderate weights. Vision and hearing requirements are within normal ranges or with correction.

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

    Travel expenses over 150 miles for second‑round interviews may be partially reimbursed. All other travel costs are borne by the candidate for in‑person interviews.
