Description

After School Instructors may work with a group of up to 20 students from TK – 8th grade. Daily tasks include tutoring, homework assistance, educational enrichment, and maintaining a high‑energy, organized, and fun classroom atmosphere. Instructors also ensure seamless integration of Catalyst programs with school day activities by sharing district classroom spaces and collaborating closely with school district staff. After School Instructors report to the Site Coordinator at their respective site.

Essential

Job Functions
  • Provide tutoring and homework assistance to help students meet national standards.
  • Collaborate with the Site Coordinator to create and implement the Catalyst Expand Ed Learning (ExL) curriculum, rules, and procedures, including new curriculum introduced during the school year.
  • Provide students with educational enrichment, including positive youth development strategies, recreation and prevention activities, and teaching youth positive life skills.
  • Work collaboratively with site staff—both internally (Catalyst ExL peers and Catalyst Kids where applicable) and externally (District staff and teachers).
  • Track students’ progress using programmatic protocol.
  • Ensure students receive consistent supervision and provide a safe and supported environment.
  • Maintain a safe environment and promptly complete all necessary safety documentation, including injury reports and license‑exempt Unusual Incident Reports (UIRs).
  • Track attendance daily, including additional After School Enrichment & Safety (ASES) requirements where applicable.
  • Complete lesson‑planning forms weekly.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism with students and families.
  • Relay feedback from students and parents to the Site Coordinator, contributing to continuous program improvement.
  • Attend regular staff meetings and district meetings.
  • Support and participate in family and site‑based events.
  • Support other sites when needed or called upon if staffing constraints arise.
  • Communicate regularly with the Site Coordinator regarding all program aspects at the designated site.
  • Apply approved behavior‑management techniques to address and support children with challenging behaviors, ensuring a positive and safe learning environment for all students.
  • Undergo and maintain all assigned health and safety, education, and HR trainings, in addition to district‑required trainings.
  • Participate in professional development enrichment opportunities to enhance student learning.
  • Prepare and adapt classroom settings, including carrying and arranging furniture (up to 25 pounds) and educational materials, to accommodate mobile classroom needs and create an optimal learning environment.
  • Promote an inclusive environment of teamwork, ensuring Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) is practiced and applied in department operations, programs, and services.
Education
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must meet school district’s requirements, which may vary by location (e.g., passing an exam, Paraprofessional certification, etc.). College units in education, recreation, or child development are desired.
Experience
  • 6+ months’ experience working with children preferred.
Other Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to singly manage a classroom of up to 20 students, ranging from TK to 8th grade.
  • Ability to express ideas clearly both verbally and in writing, manage sensitive situations with discretion, and foster open communication channels.
  • Understanding of behavior management and effective strategies for guiding student behavior.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly organized with exceptional interpersonal and partnering relationship skills.
  • Enthusiastic and highly motivated.
  • Proven leadership and team‑building skills.
  • Excellent time‑management skills.
  • Flexible, team‑oriented, child‑focused, and eager to make a difference in children’s lives.
  • Ability to meet state and district‑specific requirements:
    Fingerprint LIVE SCAN, CPR/First Aid Certification, Medical Certificate/TB test, Mandated Reporter training, Food Handlers Permit (where applicable).

Shift Type: Full Time / Part Time

Schedule: Flexible Substitute Schedule with minimum two days availability per week

Compensation: $17.05 – $25.58 hourly
