The Environmental Technician I (ETI) reports directly to the Environmental Manager (EM), or the Sr. Environmental Manager (SEM) assigned to their region and indirectly to the Environmental Operations Director when the assigned EM position is open. The ETI is responsible for implementation of company policies and procedural plans related to all environmental media, including air, stormwater, groundwater, solid, and/or hazardous waste.

The ETI maintains Pick-N-Pull facilities in compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local environmental laws, standards, and permits; and has responsibility for maintaining facility compliance with applicable environmental permit conditions.

The ETI conducts on-site fieldwork associated with sampling, monitoring, observing, and recording environmental data; prepares reports and records required by regulatory permit, plan, or agreement; assists in the operation of pollution control equipment and associated metering and/or measuring devices; delivers training programs contained within environmental permits, plans and policies; provides first-line environmental emergency responses to incidents, spills, releases, and accidents; and assists with site investigations and remediation projects related to due diligence activities and other identified environmental issues.

The primary goal of this position is to achieve excellence in all facets of environmental management, while providing the highest quality product safely, effectively, efficiently and in compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements, and to decrease the frequency of accidents, errors, and compliance deviations while increasing profits.

Compensation Range: $31.25/hour - $35.30/hour

• Ensures all Company and business unit Environmental standards are strictly adhered to.
• Assists in conducting appropriate training for site personnel as required by local, state, and federal regulations.
• Assists in implementation of environmental procedures for their respective site(s).
• Helps provide a safe environment for all employees, customers, and visitors.
• Maintain all documents in the environmental binder library and on the electronic shared drive.
• Maintain manifest document upload and file organization.
• Operational Performance & Best Management Practices
• Spends approximately 80% of time in the field to assist operations staff and other ETs in driving continuous improvement related to environmental compliance programs.
• Assist site in preparation of ISO 14001 certification.
• Maintain environmental records and reports.
• Collects all Storm Water samples, operate the storm water control systems, and enter data into the CA online portal, SMARTS.
• Conduct routine EPIP inspections weekly on sites assigned to other ET’s.
• Assure compliance of all newly set rows of autos in the customer yard and conduct vehicle spot checks daily.
• Assists in efforts to achieve specific waste reduction/minimization at regional locations.
• Collects, evaluates, and disseminates pertinent information relating to environmental compliance requirements and maintains appropriate reference files.
• Recommends changes in procedures, design, or equipment when necessary.
• Assists, as requested, in efforts to develop, plan, and support environmental investigations, facilitate root cause and corrective actions identified.
• Provides oversight and management of work performed by various consultants and contractors, as well as coordination with both in-house and outside legal counsel.
• Performs other related duties as assigned by their assigned SEM or environmental operations management.
• Equipment & Maintenance:
  Works closely with maintenance department personnel to ensure proper management of maintenance-derived waste materials and appropriate permitting of maintenance equipment. Oversee the operation of the Gas Vapor recovery System onsite (if applicable).
• Inventory & Quality Control:
  Prepares and submits permit documents, reports, and records to regulatory agencies on time. Maintains on-site records for all environmental regulatory requirements and meets due dates for all associated submittals.…
