OverviewSierra College is seeking a Community Safety Officer to protect the health, safety, and well-being of campus communities. The officer will patrol campus, respond to incidents, enforce policies, and provide support to students, staff, and visitors in a diverse environment.
Responsibilities- Patrol campus by foot, vehicle, or bicycle to maintain safety and security.
- Respond to emergencies, conduct first aid, and report incidents to relevant authorities.
- Enforce parking regulations, issue citations, and manage traffic control.
- Conduct investigations of violations in a trauma‑informed and equity‑mindful manner.
- Provide safety escorts and support to students, staff, and the public.
- Monitor and maintain security equipment, including alarms and cameras.
- Collaborate with campus departments to promote safety initiatives.
- Maintain accurate incident logs and produce reports as required.
- Assist with special events and coordinate security coverage.
- Perform onboarding and training for student and temporary employees.
- Education: Completion of 12th grade or GED. Preference for a degree in modern policing from a California community college.
- Experience: Minimum two years of general safety or security experience with extensive public contact.
- License/Certificate: Valid California Driver's License, Guard Card, SB 1626 completion, CPR/First Aid/AED, Hazardous Materials Awareness, POST training.
- Knowledge: Law enforcement practices, Title IX, FERPA, ADA, campus safety policies, first aid, traffic control, equity‑oriented investigation, de‑escalation, restorative justice, cultural competence.
- Abilities: Patrol effectively, assess emergencies, report accurately, provide first aid, use radios, remain calm under stress, support diverse campus groups, apply equity frameworks, maintain confidentiality, communicate clear, plan work, use technology.
Active patrolling, standing, walking, running, bending, lifting light to moderate weights; exposure to all weather conditions; operation of vehicles; use of repetitive computer and radio equipment; ability to respond quickly to emergencies.
