The Sheriff's Department is recruiting for Painters I who perform skilled work in painting and finishing a variety of wood, metal and other surfaces including equipment and furniture.
Responsibilities:- Strip, prepare and paint walls and other wood and metal surfaces; blend and match paints; perform finish work using stains, paints, varnishes and lacquers; install drywall, tape and mud walls for painting; clean and store tools and materials; erect scaffolding and work from extension ladders.
- In addition, Painters in the Sheriff's facilities may supervise a small inmate work crew for various jobs.
This position requires occasionally lifting of objects up to 50 lbs., working in confined spaces, squatting, kneeling, stepping and climbing ladders, and working on a scaffolding. Shift and weekend work may also be required.
Note:Applicants must not have been convicted of a felony. Prior to appointment, applicants will be fingerprinted and must pass a background investigation.
Travel:Travel throughout the County may be required. At the time of hire, a valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be produced for the individual providing the transportation.
Experience:Four years of full-time, paid journey level experience as a painter in the building trades - OR - successful completion of a formal painting apprenticeship program resulting in journey level status. Indicate completion of apprenticeship, including provider and date, on the application and/or attach a copy of certificate of completion.
Testing:The test will be administered on January 8, 2009 and will consist of an evaluation of knowledge and skills on the following topics:
- Painting Techniques
- Safety
