Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Mechanic / Fleet Supervisor to assist with the maintenance, safety, compliance, and overall readiness of QTC Inc.'s fleet of vehicles, trailers, and equipment. This position will primarily focus on performing mechanical repairs, troubleshooting equipment issues, completing preventative maintenance, conducting inspections, and ensuring vehicles and equipment remain safe and operational.

A major responsibility of this position is maintaining a strong understanding of DOT and FMCSA requirements and helping ensure QTC's fleet and drivers remain compliant. The ideal candidate will have significant experience working with commercial vehicles and trailers and be knowledgeable in DOT inspections, Hours of Service, ELDs, vehicle classifications, driver requirements, maintenance requirements, and other areas of commercial fleet compliance.

This is a hands-on position and requires someone who is comfortable working directly on vehicles and equipment while also helping coordinate maintenance, repairs, inspections, and DOT-related fleet needs.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Performing routine maintenance, preventative maintenance, repairs, and inspections on company trucks, trailers, and equipment.
  • Troubleshooting and diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and equipment-related issues.
  • Determining whether repairs can be completed internally or require an outside repair facility or specialized vendor.
  • Performing or coordinating repairs to brakes, suspension systems, electrical systems, batteries, lighting, trailer components, and other vehicle or equipment systems.
  • Maintaining preventative maintenance schedules and helping ensure company vehicles and equipment receive required service within established intervals.
  • Inspecting vehicles, trailers, and equipment for mechanical issues, damage, excessive wear, and unsafe conditions.
  • Reviewing reported vehicle defects and determining whether a vehicle can safely remain in service.
  • Identifying and correcting conditions that may result in a vehicle being placed out of service.
  • Maintaining a thorough working knowledge of applicable DOT and FMCSA regulations affecting QTC's commercial fleet.
  • Understanding commercial motor vehicle classifications and how vehicle weight, GVWR, GCWR, trailer weight, and vehicle combinations affect DOT requirements.
  • Understanding and assisting with compliance related to Hours of Service regulations, ELD requirements, applicable exemptions, supporting documentation, and driver logs.
  • Understanding driver qualification requirements applicable to DOT-regulated drivers.
  • Understanding DOT inspection requirements including roadside inspections, annual inspections, pre-trip/post-trip inspections, and Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports when applicable.
  • Understanding DOT vehicle maintenance, repair, inspection, and recordkeeping requirements.
  • Understanding applicable requirements involving vehicle registrations, permits, license classifications, medical cards, and other driver or vehicle documentation.
  • Understanding applicable cargo and load securement requirements.
  • Reviewing Samsara information related to Hours of Service, vehicle inspections, maintenance needs, driver compliance, vehicle faults, and other fleet-related information.
  • Assisting employees with questions regarding DOT inspections, vehicle requirements, trailers, and other DOT-related matters.
