Part-Time Gallery Associate Thalassa Gallery

Thalassa, a contemporary art gallery in downtown Rockport, Massachusetts, is seeking a reliable and welcoming Part-Time Gallery Associate to support the gallery during Sunday open hours.

The Gallery Associate will help create a positive experience for visitors while supporting day-to-day gallery operations. The ideal candidate is personable, attentive, comfortable engaging with the public, and interested in contemporary art.

The Gallery Associate will become familiar with Thalassa’s current exhibitions and artists and will serve as a knowledgeable and approachable presence for visitors to the gallery.

• Welcome visitors to the gallery and create a friendly, engaging environment.
• Answer general questions about Thalassa, current exhibitions, artists, and artwork on view.
• Remain informed about current exhibitions and become familiar with relevant artist and artwork information.
• Assist visitors who are interested in learning more about or purchasing artwork.
• Process artwork and other gallery sales through the gallery’s point-of-sale system.
• Collect customer contact information and other relevant details for follow-up when appropriate.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming gallery environment.
• Keep gallery materials, including exhibition information and other printed resources, organized and stocked.
• Open and/or close the gallery as required for the scheduled shift.
• Communicate visitor questions, sales inquiries, and other notable issues to the Gallery Director.
• Assist with occasional basic gallery tasks as needed.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Friendly, professional, and comfortable interacting with visitors of different ages and backgrounds.
• Reliable and able to work independently.
• Comfortable learning and using a point-of-sale system to process transactions.
• Interest in contemporary art, galleries, museums, or other cultural organizations.
• Previous customer service experience in retail, hospitality, museums, galleries, or a related environment is preferred but not required.
• Previous experience with art, museums, galleries, or art history is a plus.
• Must be available to work the regular Sunday 12:00–3:00 PM shift.
