SUMMARYOF POSITION
The Deputy Treasurer - Indigent Health Care Service Clerk position will perform various clerical and reception duties. Work involves initial contact with persons requesting information and/or services from Aransas County Assistance Department, including Indigent Health Care Services. Works under supervision, with extensive knowledge of assisting clients. Exhibits courtesy, politeness and extreme patience with clients and other co-workers/department heads. Confidentiality of personal and sensitive information is crucial.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: EXAMPLES OF WORK
- Schedule and conduct interviews with clients to determine eligibility for County Indigent Health Care services.
- Process Applications for Indigent Health Care Services, as well as for other general assistance programs.
- Process Form Letters, Purchase Orders for prescriptions, and other documents necessary to process claims.
- Provide information and resources to Indigent Health Care and Assistance clients and general public – act as liaison between clients and County programs and medical providers.
- Responsible for handling client complaints, inquiries and general comments, as well as inquiries from medical providers and other governmental agencies.
- Responsible for preparing reports and data collections for state and other governmental entities, on a timely basis, and for keeping updates with all rules, regulations and stipulations from governmental entities as regards Indigent Health Care.
- Data entry, processing and paying of medical claims for Indigent Health Care clients and inmates – including posting claims payments, mailing out checks to Providers, and staying current with all specialized software updates.
- Perform all other general office operations, including typing, data entry, outgoing mail and filing.
- Perform such other related duties, as may be assigned by the County Treasurer.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
Supervisor duties; medical claims coding, terminology and eligibility procedures; legislation relevant to indigent health care; general office practices and procedures; administration; basic accounting practices;
Excel and Word; and general computer operations.
Skill/Ability to:
Operate a computer and basic office equipment; proficient in Excel, Word and other data entry software; email and other interoffice communications; excellent organizational skills; excellent supervisory skills; communicate effectively orally and in writing; interact with the public; collect and analyze data; manage time effectively; comply with policies and procedures; establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other county employees, clients, and the general public;
understand and follow directions.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
- High School graduation; some college or other higher education preferred
- Experience and/or on-the-job training in client relations, Customer Service, case working and/or medical claims processing
