Position Details: Deputy Treasurer Assistant
Location: Rockport, TX Openings: 1 Salary Range: $20.61 per hour
DescriptionSummary of Position
The Deputy Treasurer position will assist the County Treasurer with the proper accounting and reporting of County financial transactions, such as banking, receipting monies, revenue collections, and other financial reporting, and will assist and support the Treasurer’s Office personnel with Payroll, Indigent Health Care Program and the Assistance Program. The Deputy Treasurer will also assist in performing all duties in the collection and reporting of Hotel Occupancy and Venue taxes.

Department Heads, County Auditor’s Office, County Judge, County Commissioners, taxpayers, clients, state agencies, health providers, and the general public.
- Daily receipting of monies from other County Departments, incoming Online ACH deposits, and Accounts Receivable payments received in the mail.
- Prepare bank deposits and deliver deposits to the bank or via Remote Deposit.
- Supports and assists Payroll Clerk with all payroll procedures on a regular basis.
- Reconcile expenditures within the County’s TECLOSE, Unclaimed Property and Forfeiture Funds.
- Assist with receipting and documenting all taxes received for Hotel Occupancy and Venue taxes.
- Maintain current records of Hotel Occupancy and Venue taxes collected, unpaid and late taxes, and continuously correspond with taxpayers pertaining to these taxes.
- Continuously perform analysis and online research to discover Hotel Occupancy and Venue tax properties that are not in compliance.
- Assist in preparing the annual Budget, in regards to Hotel Occupancy and Venue Tax Revenues.
- Assist with the entry of Juror payments for processing by Accounts Payable.
- Assist, support, and act as backup to staff of Indigent Health Care and Assistance Programs.
- Compose correspondence, emails, memos, reports and other documents as necessary.
- Answer telephone, receive visitors and answer inquiries and open records requests.
- Periodically attends Commissioners’ Court meetings.
- Perform other financial and clerical duties as needed and as directed by the County Treasurer.
Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of: general office practices and procedures; legislation relevant to state fees, County finance, Hotel Occupancy Tax and indigent health care; basic accounting practices;
Excel and Word; and general computer operations.
Skill/Ability to: operate a computer and basic office equipment; proficient in Excel, Word and other data entry processes; email and other interoffice communications; excellent organizational skills; interact with the public; collect and analyze data; accurately balance accounts; manage time effectively; comply with policies and procedures; establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other county employees, clients, and the general public;
understand and follow directions; communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- High School graduation or its equivalent;
- Advanced education and/or extensive on-the-job training in accounting and banking functions and procedures
- Valid Texas Driver’s License
