Our client, a well-established real estate organization, is seeking a Senior Tax Accountant to join its Tax & Treasury team. This role supports a diverse portfolio of real estate assets and related investments by preparing and reviewing complex tax returns, performing tax research, managing compliance activities, and supporting tax planning initiatives.
The ideal candidate will have strong partnership taxation experience, preferably within commercial real estate, along with expertise in federal and multi-state tax compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review tax trial balances, accounting adjustments, and tax work papers.
- Analyze lease agreements to determine the appropriate tax treatment of lease incentives.
- Maintain fixed asset and depreciation schedules.
- Prepare and review complex federal and multi-state tax returns, including:
- Partnerships (Form 1065)
- Trusts (Form 1041)
- Prepare and review tax projections for federal and state estimated tax payments and extensions.
- Prepare, review, and manage personal property tax filings across multiple state and local jurisdictions.
- Manage tax payments and related compliance activities.
- Conduct tax research and provide recommendations on technical tax matters.
- Maintain partnership and entity tax schedules.
- Support the conversion and maintenance of tax work papers.
- Assist with staff training and process improvements.
- Participate in special projects and perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting required; degree in Taxation is a plus.
- 4+ years of public accounting and/or corporate tax experience.
- Strong partnership taxation experience, preferably within commercial real estate.
- Experience preparing and reviewing federal and multi-state tax returns.
- Experience with trusts, high-net-worth individuals, and pass-through entities preferred.
- Strong understanding of federal and state tax compliance.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with CCH Tax software preferred.
- Experience with advanced tax workpaper preparation and management preferred.
- Experience with Yardi or other real estate accounting software is a plus.
- Experience with trust accounting, private equity, and state income tax is a plus.
