Purpose:
Richey May is seeking a high-performing Senior Tax Associate to join our growing Rockville, MD office. This role goes beyond traditional tax preparation and is designed for a professional who thrives as a strategic advisor. The Senior Tax Associate will partner with clients and internal teams to deliver proactive, high-touch (“white glove”) tax solutions while leveraging technology to drive efficiency and insight.
This individual will play a key role in supporting complex tax engagements for partnerships, S-corporations, and high-net-worth individuals, translating technical tax concepts into clear, actionable guidance for clients and business leaders. The role also carries meaningful team responsibility, mentoring junior staff and contributing to their technical growth.
Success in this role requires strong technical tax expertise, sound judgment, and the ability to manage multiple client engagements simultaneously with accuracy and quality. Tax Compliance & Advisory:- Prepare and review complex federal and state tax returns for partnerships, S corporations, and high-net-worth individuals.
- Conduct Tax Research & Modeling:
Perform tax research and financial modeling to identify planning opportunities and mitigate risk. - Manage Engagements:
Manage multiple client engagements simultaneously, ensuring deadlines, accuracy, and quality standards are met. - Stay Current on Tax Law:
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of tax laws, regulations, and industry trends relevant to assigned clients.
- Serve as Client Advisor:
Act as a key point of contact for clients, providing clear, strategic guidance on tax matters. - Translate Technical Concepts:
Translate complex tax concepts into actionable recommendations for clients and business leaders. - Collaborate Across Service Lines:
Partner with internal teams across service lines to deliver comprehensive client solutions.
- Coach Junior Staff:
Coach, mentor, and develop junior tax staff to support team growth and technical excellence. - Model Technical Excellence:
Set the standard for quality and accuracy through review, feedback, and hands‑on guidance.
- Leverage Tax Technology:
Use tax technology, automation tools, and AI-driven platforms to improve efficiency and scalability. - Improve Workflows:
Identify and implement process improvements to enhance workflow and the client experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong technical knowledge of tax preparation and consulting for partnerships, S Corporations, and high-net-worth individuals.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and research skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Experience with Pro System fx or similar tax software is preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to mentor and develop junior team members.
- Ability to manage multiple engagements and priorities simultaneously with minimal supervision.
- Ability to follow all Richey May policies, procedures, standards, specifications, and guidelines.
- 3–5+ years of progressive public accounting experience, with a focus on tax preparation and consulting.
- Strong experience preparing returns for partnerships, S-corporations, and high-net-worth individuals.
