Summary
Description:
Under direction, supervises and provides leadership for countywide prek-12 environmental literacy curriculum, and supervises, manages and leads instructional programs in outdoor environmental education. Functions as principal for all outdoor education sites. Stays informed about current national, state, and local trends and progress in environmental literacy to stay current, and obtain information and contacts essential for curriculum and program improvements. Physical Demands:

Occasional attendance at evening Board of Education, collaboratively organized Outdoor Education Association events, and courses offered by the Outdoor Environmental Education Team. Ability to respond to emergencies at any time.

Thorough knowledge of the educational process; extensive knowledge of MCPS curriculum, instruction, and assessments; ability to work effectively with principals, content supervisors, students, and teachers, as well as state and national colleagues, to implement and monitor an effective instructional program. Excellent planning, organization, management, communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills; exceptional administrative and supervisory ability; and the ability to develop program budgets and manage accounts.
Education,Training & Experience
- Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with extensive course work in science and emphasis on curriculum development, administration and supervision.
- Five years outstanding teaching or related experience and administrative or supervisory experience required.
- Experiences in assessing program needs, using technology to support teaching and learning, curriculum development, program implementation, professional learning, and data analysis; or other combinations of applicable education, training and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
- Experience in grant writing desirable.
- Certificate License:
Meets Maryland Certification requirements for supervisors and principals or Administrator I. Science certification is advisable.
