is a year round program that serves students age 5-15 with autism spectrum disorder and other related disorders. Students are taught in highly structured, self-contained classrooms utilizing a variety of strategies including: discrete trial, direct instruction, play based instruction, motor skill development, sensory integration strategies, natural aided language stimulation, community based instruction, and positive behavioral support.
Special Education Teachers:
- Develop and implement lesson plans and modify instruction to meet the individual needs of students.
- Monitor, evaluate and report on students' progress.
- Attend and participate in meetings.
The pay range for this position is $60,000 minimum - $108,000 maximum. Pay for this position is determined on a number of factors, including but not limited to, years and level of related experience.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree and at least 3 months of related teaching experience (i.e. student teaching, internships, etc.).
- Must have or be eligible for a conditional, standard professional or advanced certification with Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) at time of appointment. Candidates with a conditional certification must obtain standard professional or advanced certification within two to four years of starting in teaching role, as determined by MSDE evaluation of the individual's credentials. Must maintain MSDE certification requirements throughout tenure in position.
- Experience working with children/adolescents with autism who are low functioning/non-verbal and have severe emotional/behavioral issues strongly preferred.
