Job Description Montgomery College, Rockville Campus, is seeking candidates for a Full-Time Librarian II position in the Research and Teaching division. The regular work schedule is 40 hours a week, Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., allowing for flexibility to accommodate one evening shift per week, and an occasional Saturday as required. This is a non-bargaining, exempt, grade 29 position.

The primary responsibilities of this role are to provide professional research assistance and a wide range of information services to library users, who are students, faculty, staff, and community patrons. This includes providing formal instruction on information literacy topics, in the classroom and one-on-one. This position will be a member of the Arts, English & Reading, and Humanities librarian liaison team, providing outreach and support to faculty and students in these discipline areas.

This position is also the coordinator for the Research & Teaching division’s online learning tools, which requires the incumbent in this position to lead instructional design initiatives in support of teaching and learning; manage workplans for review, creation and maintenance of digital learning objects; participate in assessment activities; and lead periodic discussions about learning tools within the Research & Teaching division.

Duties

Include But Are Not Limited To
  • Perform all aspects of Academic Area Liaison and Embedded Librarian services which include providing professional reference assistance and a wide range of information services to library users; providing effective information literacy instruction; and creating and delivering information literacy activities and tools for in-person and online learning environments.
  • Perform outreach to faculty and others in the Arts, English & Reading, and Humanities disciplines to foster effective relationships for creating dynamic learning strategies in support of the curriculum and specific student needs in a variety of courses and stages of student development.
  • Familiarize themselves with the needs, attitudes, and internal operations of the academic departments in which they liaise.
  • Learn about the programs and curricula for their assigned academic departments and plan for growth and change accordingly.
  • Form relationships and regularly communicate with faculty in their assigned academic department(s).
  • Work with their librarian supervisor and liaison team to establish and maintain relationships and outreach methods.
  • Provide coordination of the development and maintenance of MC Library’s multidisciplinary online learning tools including the oversight of routine maintenance, periodic revisions, and the development of new digital learning objects.
  • Serve as the Research & Teaching division’s point of contact for the Articulate content development platform.
  • Provide training on instructional design principles and the effective use of the Articulate platform for librarian content authors.
  • Lead periodic discussions within the Research & Teaching division, to promote a holistic understanding of the library’s digital learning objects and engage in planning for future needs.
