Job Description
Montgomery College is seeking a n outstanding full-time Surgical Technology faculty member to fill a position beginning January
2027. We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher who exhibits a high degree of professionalism, a strong commitment toour students, and the ability to motivate and educate in an engaging manner. The Surgical Technology program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Review Council on Education in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (ARC/STSA). This position is part of a collective bargaining unit.
The successful candidate will appreciate teaching in amulti-cultural environment and will welcome the opportunity to workwith students with diverse learning abilities. Faculty duties include classroom instruction, assessment, curriculum development,advising, professional inquiry, committee work and utilizinginstructional technology . The majority of our courses use open educational resources (OERs) to yield cost savings for the students and the most current content for faculty. Incoming faculty will utilize OERs in alignment with the other faculty in the discipline.
Teaching assignments may include various delivery modes, such asface-to-face, online, hybrid, and/or blended formats during days,evenings, and weekends. Montgomery College has multiple campuses,and faculty may be assigned to teach in-person at any of these campuses and teach online.
Duties include but are not limited to:- Teach a variety of didactic, laboratory, and clinical courseswithin the Surgical Technology program.
- Teach 30 semester hours per academic year. Opportunities mayexist to teach summer classes.
- Participate in ARC/STSA accreditation activities and abide byaccreditation guidelines and standards.
- Participate in discipline-related activities such as program evaluation, curriculum design, and outcomes assessment an devaluation.
- Provide support to the program and clinical coordinator asneeded.
- Faculty members are expected to serve on departmental, campus,and/or college committees, hold office hours, advise students,participate in course and program assessment, and maintain anactive personal program of professional development and continuous learning.
- Master’s degree
- Associate degree in Surgical Technology from an accredited institution.
- Must hold the credential of certified surgical technologistfrom a nationalcredentialing organization that is accredited bythe National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA) specifically
National Board on Surgical Assisting and Surgical Assistants(NBSTSA), or Certified Surgical Technologist or joint Certified Surgical Technologist/Certified First Assistant.
- Minimum of three (3) years of current experience in the operating room in a scrub roleorthree (3) years of current experience as an instructor of surgical technologyora combination of both within the past five (5) years.
- Demonstrated proficiency in instructional methodology,curriculum design, and program planning.
- Demonstrated excellence in classroom instruction using avariety of teaching methods.
- Demonstrated commitment to inclusive and equitable teaching practices and support of a diverse student population.
- Experience integrating technology into course delivery including the use of a Learning Management System.
- Applicants must be able to travel within the DC, Maryland, and Virginia area to visit clinical sites affiliated with the program.
- Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship.
- Experience utilizing high-impact teaching pedagogies to fosterstudent engagement and active learning.
- Experience supporting students through extracurricular activities or community outreach.
