This is a grant funded position. The grant ends 6/30/27 with the plan to renew it for the upcoming year.

The wage range for this position is a salary between $66,690 and $135,745 based on education and experience. For information about benefits, please follow the link below.

Under direction, assists the director of the Department of Professional Growth Systems in planning and implementing courses and training. Through training and professional development, the instructional specialist provides supports to staff related to system-wide goals, priorities and initiatives. The instructional specialist plans, develops, and implements opportunities for professional learning including, but not limited to effective curriculum planning, motivating and engaging students, managing a positive learning environment, matching instructional strategies to best meet the needs of all students.

The specialist performs a wide variety of professional development roles, including, but not limited to: trainer, coach, consultant, resource provider, facilitator and project manager. This is a yearly grant-funded position which reports directly to the director of the Department of Professional Growth Systems.

Physical Demands:

Must be able to move materials/equipment to and from different training sites.

Special Requirements :

Frequent need to shift schedule to accommodate training after hours and on weekends. May be required to attend evening Board of Education meetings, district meetings and state level meetings.

Understands and demonstrates highly effective instructional strategies; knowledge of MCPS curriculum and various forms of assessment, including analysis of data; experience planning, delivering, and monitoring both face-to-face and online professional development for adults; strong and engaging skills as trainer, facilitator, and coach; interest in and ability to work collaboratively on a high performing team. This position requires the knowledge and application of the six performance standards that have been established for the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Teacher Professional Growth System (TPGS).

Master^s degree from an accredited college or university with emphasis on teaching, curriculum, and/or instruction; minimum seven years successful teacher level experience;
Extensive outstanding experience as a classroom teacher; demonstrated leadership in equity, supporting teachers, the school improvement process, and/or system goals and initiatives; experience in planning and delivering staff development for adult learners; excellent human relations skills. Successful completion of SST1 or OAT
1. Certificate License:

Holds a current Maryland state standard and advanced professional certificate in a teaching area.
