The Airframe & Powerplant Field Engineer (FSR) is responsible for the maintenance and operations of program aircraft and ground support systems. This role works flexible day/swing shifts and alternates with coworkers on weekend standby.
Key responsibilities include:
aircraft launch/recovery, engineering and technical support to Operations and Maintenance, weekend and holiday support based on flying schedule, coordination and resolution of engineering/technical/logistics issues, support to field team repairs and modifications on program aircraft, FAA return-to-service support for program components, configuration management, and informal training. The candidate must interpret engineering drawings and technical publications for maintenance and interface with customers, users, and subcontractors as required.
Functions
- Inspection:
Perform detailed inspections of aircraft airframes and power plant systems to identify wear, damage, or discrepancies using diagnostic tools and equipment. - Maintenance and Repair:
Conduct routine and preventive maintenance on aircraft airframes, engines, and related systems, repairing or replacing defective parts to ensure safety and airworthiness. - Overhaul:
Overhaul aircraft engines and airframes following manufacturer guidelines and industry standards. - Testing:
Perform functional and operational tests on aircraft systems and components to ensure proper performance and reliability. - Documentation:
Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, and parts usage in compliance with FAA regulations and company policies. - Compliance:
Ensure all activities comply with FAA regulations, industry standards, and company policies. - Troubleshooting:
Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic tools. - Safety:
Adhere to all safety protocols and report unsafe conditions or practices. - Training:
Stay current with new technologies and participate in ongoing training and certification programs. - Tool Management:
Maintain and manage tools and equipment, ensuring they are calibrated and in good working condition.
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience, or a Graduate degree with a minimum of 4 years, or in lieu of a degree a minimum of 10 years. FAA‑approved aviation maintenance technician school completion is preferred. - Experience:
Minimum of 2 years in aircraft maintenance and repair. Military background with 747‑8i experience is preferred. Demonstrated experience with aircraft maintenance, modifications, and operational demands of the program aircraft. Ability to obtain and retain a security clearance is required. - Skills:
Excellent written and oral communication, proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), “can‑do” attitude, teamwork, and willingness to travel. - Certifications:
FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certification is required. - Physical Requirements:
Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, work in confined spaces, stand for extended periods, and operate in various weather conditions.
