Job Description
This role is responsible for developing and coordinating architectural solutions for the Xe-100 plant, including site planning, building design, spatial programming, and facility layout. The Architect IV will collaborate with a multi-disciplined team of engineers, suppliers, construction contractors, and other project stakeholders, and will support key objectives in deploying the Xe-100 plant that has advantages in safety, reliability, economics, and sustainability relative to current-day power generation units.
This position will lead the execution of core architectural tasks without close supervision, provide guidance to more junior team members, and contribute to the coordination of multiple work streams within an assigned technical area to ensure timely, high-quality design delivery.
- Develop architectural design of the Xe-100 plant, including site plans, general arrangement, elevations and sections, safety plans, room data sheets, schedules, roof plans, etc.
- Develop design criteria and specifications for architectural systems. Apply architectural principles, codes and standards, and best practices.
- Perform, manage, and oversee architectural design deliverables such as documents, drawings, specifications, and 3D models of building facilities for the Xe-100 project. This includes planning, monitoring, and directing design efforts through all development life cycles.
- Work closely with interdisciplinary teams including structural engineers, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, nuclear engineers, and radiation protection specialists to ensure integrated building system design.
- Ensure integration with structural systems such as reinforced concrete, structural steel, and precast/prefabricated systems.
- Develop innovative concepts that can be implemented in a cost-effective and schedule-considerate manner while meeting the needs of customers.
- Work with construction teams to evaluate constructability, sequencing, material take-off, cost estimate, schedule development, and modularization concepts for the Xe-100 plant.
- Define, manage, and verify the requirements for buildings. Ensure the buildings perform required functions throughout the plant life cycle.
- Identify, define, and manage interfaces with internal and external teams to advance the Xe-100 design.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable local, national, and international codes, regulations, and quality standards.
- Lead the execution of core architectural tasks and responsibilities without close supervision and with some latitude for independent judgment.
- Provide feedback and guidance to more junior team members in the execution of architectural deliverables and technical scope.
- Lead small groups of engineers or designers to solve complex technical problems and deliver high-quality work products on time and within budget.
- Coordinate multiple work streams within an assigned technical area and ensure design deliverables are aligned across disciplines.
- Support design issue resolution and contribute to technical decisions affecting the project scope.
- Maintain professional demeanor and behavior at all times in all forms of communication.
- Perform other duties as assigned by manager.
Minimum Qualifications
- Typically, ten years of experience in an architectural or related engineering role required.
- Degree in Architecture (B.Arch or M.Arch) from an accredited institution, or Bachelor’s degree in architectural engineering or related degree from an accredited institution.
- Experience with architectural design of civil structures, including industrial structures, commercial and residential buildings, power generation facilities, and infrastructure.
- Understanding of architectural fundamentals, such as spatial design, building programming, human factors, safety functions, materials, construction techniques, codes and standards, environmental and economic impact, and professional ethics.
- Experience with design tools such as Revit, Smart 3D, AutoCAD, Micro Station, or Navisworks.
Location: Rockville, MD or Houston TX
Work Site Expectations: 4 days in office
Travel Expectations: 5% (as needed for project assignment)
Hours: Standard office hours are 8:00am ET to 5:00pm ET, Monday
