Engineer V, Risk Informed Safety Analysis

Job Description

This role is responsible for performing safety analysis and/or probabilistic risk assessments (PRA) in accordance with the appropriate industry standards and guidance, authoring and reviewing safety analysis/PRA-related documents, and providing results and insights to the design of X-energy technologies.

• Perform various safety analyses in one or more of the following areas:
  Probabilistic Risk Assessment.
• Follow ASME/ANS RA‑S‑1.4‑2021 (or other applicable PRA‑related industry standards) in creating and maintaining PRA models and supporting calculation documents.
• Revise and review PRA documents, and follow the guidance of PRA‑dependent applications such as NEI 18‑04 to acquire risk insights that inform design and licensing.
• Develop proficiency in using PRA‑related software (e.g., EPRI’s Phoenix Architect) in accordance with X‑energy procedures, ensuring correct version usage and documentation.
• Perform main PRA tasks including event tree and fault tree development, and associated documentation.
• Develop screening methods, risk‑informed supplemental evaluations, and/or PRA models for different plant operating modes, radionuclide sources, internal and external hazards, and multi‑reactor considerations.
• Collaborate and communicate with key stakeholders in engineering, project leadership, and the safety analysis team to provide frequent updates, maintain priorities, and raise concerns.
• Provide engineering/technical expertise and guidance in identifying, analyzing, and resolving problems of increasing scope and complexity.
• Contribute to team decision‑making in the accomplishment of business goals through planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring work activities.
• Prepare thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches related to well‑defined problems and increasing‑scope analysis.
• Conduct engineering and related studies, completing routine projects with minimal oversight while independently managing project schedules and interfaces.
• Develop and maintain safety basis documents and procedures, and identify the interrelationship of safety basis requirements to existing and new designs and operations.
• Interface with customers and regulators in nuclear safety reviews and technical working group meetings to comply with requirements and meet project objectives.
• Maintain professional demeanor and behavior at all times in all forms of communication.
• Perform other duties as assigned by manager.

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering (nuclear, chemical, mechanical, etc.) from an ABET accredited university.
• Experience with internal and external hazard modeling (preferred).

Salary range: $163,800 – $273,000 (base salary only, does not include benefits or other incentives).
