Systems Engineer
Job Summary
Lead and implement comprehensive systems engineering efforts across the full lifecycle, applying systems thinking to analyze, design and integrate interdependent components. This role drives stakeholder and operational analysis, defines and manages requirements, develops functional and logical architectures using model‑based methods within PLM frameworks, oversees physical product definition, interface management, change control, design integration and testing, and system verification and validation. It also develops and maintains operational concepts, coordinates cross‑disciplinary collaboration, identifies and mitigates technical risks, supports value engineering through cost and feasibility analyses, documents and communicates technical progress to both technical and non‑technical audiences, ensures compliance with X‑Energy quality assurance procedures, and upholds professional standards in all communications.
Responsibilities- Lead core tasks and responsibilities with minimal supervision and provide guidance to junior team members.
- Lead small groups of engineers to solve complex technical problems and deliver high‑quality engineering work products on time and within budget.
- Apply systems thinking and take a holistic approach to solve problems, analyze and design systems, and consider interdependencies between components.
- Lead and manage systems engineering lifecycle efforts surrounding stakeholder and operational analysis, requirement identification, decomposition, and management, functional decomposition and modeling, logical system architecture development, physical product definition, interface management, and change control, design integration and testing, system verification and validation, and concept of operations development.
- Develop and maintain system behavior models using model‑based systems engineering (MBSE) tools within established Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) frameworks.
- Identify and monitor technical risks; develop and implement risk mitigation strategies.
- Support value engineering activities, including cost analyses, economic feasibility assessments, and cost reduction opportunity identification.
- Write, review, and communicate engineering documentation, reports, and technical details and project progress to technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Execute systems engineering processes within X‑Energy’s quality management framework and work across engineering disciplines to ensure effective integration of system components and subsystems.
- Perform work in accordance with X‑Energy quality assurance procedures to meet required standards and maintain professional demeanor in all communications.
- Perform other duties as assigned by manager.
- Typically ten years of experience in an engineering role.
- A master’s degree in engineering or related field (may include a combination of academic and professional experience) may be in lieu of two years of experience.
- A Ph.D. in engineering or related field (may include a combination of academic and professional experience) may be in lieu of three years of experience.
- Previous experience at X‑Energy exceeding performance standards may be in lieu of years of experience.
- Experience with systems engineering software tools.
- Bachelor’s degree in industrial and systems engineering, or another engineering discipline from an ABET‑accredited institution (required).
- System lifecycle processes (ISO 15288)
- Operational & stakeholder analysis, requirements management, system design & interface management, design integration & testing, verification & validation
- Model‑based systems engineering (MBSE) tools and methods, and product lifecycle management systems (e.g., Teamcenter PLM, Cameo, Capella, Genesys, SysML, and DOORS)
- Systems modeling and simulation, interface control and management
- Configuration management and change control, technical risk assessment and management

5 days in-office preferred. Remote flexibility available. Up to 10% travel required. 8:00am–5:00pm, Monday–Friday.
$135,000–$170,000 annually (salary range varies by location and individual qualifications). Compensation is adjusted for education, experience, and qualifications.
