Mechanical Systems Engineer - Controls and Automation
We are seeking a Mechanical Systems Engineer to support the architecture and design efforts for a large industrial power system. The role focuses on controls, industrial sensors, and instrumentation from a mechanical systems perspective. You will collaborate with a team of engineers to ensure the integration of systems instrumentation and controls, influencing design segments to meet system needs. This position requires understanding mechanical systems level design and a strong knowledge of sensors and controls systems.
Responsibilities- Integrate sensors, instrumentation, and controls plans into mechanical systems architecture.
- Coordinate changes in systems architecture and design with a team of instrumentation and controls engineers.
- Use 3D CAD for reviewing components and systems architecture planning.
- Outline and adjust sensor type, selection, and overall mechanical systems architecture for sensor layout.
- Cross-coordinate with multiple internal teams and stakeholders to communicate system updates.
- Work with mechanical integration teams to coordinate testing of sensors and instrumentation.
- Select and specify various controllers and PLCs to maintain the sensors and instrumentation environment.
- Experience with complex mechanical systems design in R&D/design environments.
- Knowledge of instrumentation and controls systems and industrial sensors.
- Mechanical systems design and development experience.
- Experience with overall systems level architecture and component selection.
Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related discipline.
- 5-15 years of relevant experience in mechanical systems and mechanical design.
- Experience or interest in industrial systems and equipment.
- Knowledge of industrial controls and PLCs is a big plus.
- Previous experience in product design, development, or implementing new controls/sensors plans.
- Experience with industrial sensors and systems architecture of sensor systems is a plus.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills for collaboration with teams and stakeholders.
- Experience in industrial automation environments is a plus.
- Nice-to-have skills include communication protocols, IO module knowledge, 3D CAD design experience, and PLC programming.
The position is based in an office environment. The role offers an opportunity to take on a lead role in a growing team, where you can own a component of the system. Strong communication and collaboration are essential as you will interact with multiple teams and stakeholders.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rockville, MD.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $60.00 - $80.00/hr eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
