Systems Engineering Internship - Summer

This role is responsible for supporting professional employees working in an organizational function related to the Intern's area of study. Depending on the internship assignment, the intern may work alongside engineers, scientists, or industry professionals to contribute to various projects related to their area of study. Under guided supervision, interns will assist with various projects and tasks, contributing to the organization's goals while learning from experienced professionals in the field.

• Apply systems thinking and take a holistic approach to solve problems, analyze and design systems, considering the interdependencies and interactions between various components.
• Assist in systems engineering lifecycle efforts surrounding: stakeholder and operational analysis, requirement identification, decomposition, and management, functional decomposition and modeling, logical system architecture development and modeling, physical product definition, interface management, and change control, design integration and testing, system verification and validation, concept of operations development and modeling; develop and maintain system behavior models using model‑based systems engineering (MBSE) tools within established Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) frameworks.
• Support the identification and monitoring of technical risks and the development of risk mitigation strategies.
• Support value engineering activities including cost analyses, economic feasibility assessments, and cost reduction opportunity identification.
• Write and review engineering documentation, reports, and communicate technical details and project progress to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Execute systems engineering processes within X-energy's quality management framework.
• Work across engineering disciplines to ensure effective integration of system components and subsystems.
• Perform work in accordance with X-energy quality assurance procedures to ensure engineering products meet required standards.
• Always maintain professional demeanor and behavior in all forms of communication.
• Perform other duties as assigned by manager.
• Assist with the day-to-day technical and operational needs of your team.
• Conduct research, gather technical data, and synthesize findings to inform ongoing design and analysis initiatives.
• Help develop reports, technical documentation, and presentations that communicate results to internal stakeholders.
• Organize and maintain project files, technical records, and documentation to support traceability and quality.
• Participate actively in team meetings, design reviews, and brainstorming sessions — bringing ideas, asking questions, and offering perspective.

Current enrollment in — or recent completion of — a degree in industrial engineering, systems engineering or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
