Job Description

X-energy seeks an experienced Government Relations Associate (3–7 years) to support its Government Affairs leadership in advancing federal and state policy priorities related to advanced nuclear energy, the fuel cycle, defense energy, and national security. The ideal candidate brings hands‑on experience navigating federal policy making, supporting the development of strategies, and working with Congress, federal agencies, and the nuclear energy community. A background in nuclear energy is strongly preferred;

experience in defense energy or DOD programs is a plus.

This mid‑level role is designed for a proactive, highly organized professional who can operate with increasing independence and contribute substantive policy, research, and process‑development capabilities.

Job Profile Tasks/Responsibilities Government Affairs Strategy & Support
  • Support Directors/VPs in developing and executing federal and state legislative and regulatory strategies.
  • Track hearings, markups, legislative developments, and regulatory actions affecting nuclear energy, HALEU, advanced reactors, industrial decarbonization, and national security.
  • Help design and optimize internal processes, tracking tools, and reporting systems for government relations workflow.
  • Coordinate Congressional, agency, statehouse, and stakeholder engagements.
Policy Research & Written Products
  • Produce high-quality policy memos, issue briefs, talking points, hearing summaries, strategic analyses and briefings.
  • Draft executive-ready materials including one-pagers, testimony, briefing materials.
  • Synthesize complex technical issues—advanced reactors, fuel cycle, DOE programs, DOD energy modernization—into accessible analysis.
PAC Management
  • Support the management of the X-energy Political Action Committee (PAC), including tracking contributions, preparing reports, maintaining compliance calendars, and supporting donor strategy and engagement.
  • Assist with PAC event planning, communications, and internal briefings.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Work closely with other parts of the company to ensure alignment between policy priorities and corporate objectives.
  • Prepare materials and provide staff support for executive-level meetings with Congress, DOE, DOD, state officials, and private-sector partners.
Operational & Administrative Excellence
  • Maintain government relations trackers, databases, and dashboards; produce weekly and monthly reporting.
  • Support logistics, scheduling, and preparation for high-level advocacy events and engagements.
  • Maintain professional demeanor and behavior at all times in all forms of communication.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager.
Required Job Profile

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Energy/Environmental Studies, International Affairs, Engineering, or related field.
  • 3–7 years of relevant experience in government affairs, energy policy, legislative research, consulting, agency work, or Congressional roles.
  • Strong writing and analytical skills with the ability to generate polished, executive-ready materials.
  • Familiarity with federal agencies (DOE, DOD, NRC), the Federal budget and appropriations process, and Congressional operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, work cross-functionally, and operate under tight deadlines.
Preferred
  • Direct experience in nuclear energy policy, advanced reactors, fuel cycle policy, or industrial decarbonization.
  • Background in defense energy, DOD energy programs, or national security policy.
  • Experience managing or supporting a corporate PAC.
