The salary range above represents this position’s earning potential. The anticipated hiring range for this position will be as follows based on candidate’s qualifications and experience:
- Public Administration Associate, Grade 16 - $57,596 to $73,873.
- Housing Code Inspector I, Grade 19 – $64,942 to $77,497.
- Housing Code Inspector II, Grade 21 – $70,556 to $98,001.
- Housing Code Inspector III, Grade 23 - $76,742 to $119,119
This position may be underfilled as a Public Administration Associate, Grade 16, Housing Code Inspector I, Grade 19, or Housing Code Inspector II, Grade 21. Once the employee is at full performance and meets the minimum requirements of the Proficiency Advancement process, they are eligible for the non‑competitive promotion through the series to the Housing Code Inspector III, Grade 23.

WHOWE ARE LOOKING FOR
The Department of Housing and Community Affairs (DHCA) is seeking to fill Housing Code Inspector positions. The Housing Code Enforcement Section is responsible for administering Montgomery County Codes Chapter 26‑Housing and Building Maintenance Standards, Chapter 48‑Solid Waste, Chapter 54‑Article III Bed and Breakfast and Short‑term Residential Rentals, and Chapter 58‑Weeds. They investigate complaints, perform legally required inspections, and educate our citizens regarding their rights and responsibilities in the area of property maintenance.
Housing Code Inspectors are responsible for performing inspections and code enforcement tasks to work to ensure compliance with housing codes/ordinances and work with residential/business property owners to encourage investment in communities and reverse deteriorating conditions.
IMPORTANT NOTEThese positions will be underfilled at the following levels:
- Public Administration Associate, Grade 16
- Housing Code Inspector I, Grade 19
- Housing Code Inspector II, Grade 21
- Housing Code Inspector III, Grade 23
- Schedule initial and follow‑up inspections with residents, homeowners, and business owners.
- Perform individual/team property inspections.
- Identify code violations.
- Explain and interpret codes to residents, homeowners, and business owners.
- Provide technical advice to property/business owners and tenants on correcting violations.
- Issue notices of violation, orders, summonses, and citations.
- Prepare cases for prosecution.
- Testify in court/administrative hearings.
- Perform outreach related tasks.
- Work with civic and homeowner organizations to address/improve community conditions.
- Coordinate efforts with other agencies/local jurisdictions on cases.
- Experience: None.
- Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree.
- Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
- License: Possession and maintenance at all times of a valid Class "C" (or equivalent) driver’s license from the applicant's state of residence.
- Medical Exam Protocol: This position requires completion of a pre‑employment Medical History Form to assess your ability to safely perform the essential duties of the role.
- Experience: Two (2) years of code compliance/enforcement and/or law enforcement work or in work directly related to housing field investigation or field inspection.
- Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree.
- Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
- License: Possession and maintenance at all times of a valid Class "C" (or equivalent) driver’s license from the applicant's state of residence.
