WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Public Health Services is currently recruiting an enthusiastic and professional Registered Nurse to become part of the multidisciplinary Specialty Medical Clinic team that provides treatment to our HIV positive population. The ideal candidate is committed and dedicated to providing services to our vulnerable community in Montgomery County, Maryland. The county’s HIV program provides services and cares for HIV positive, uninsured and under‑insured county residents.

This position will be responsible for the delivery of nursing care, managing medication/treatment, compliance and follow up. Multilingual ability in Spanish is preferred for this position.

The Community Health Nurse II will work under the general supervision of the HIV/STI Nurse Manager to provide community health nursing services to county residents seeking care in the STI Clinic at the Dennis Avenue Health Center in Silver Spring.
  • Providing direct nursing care to a diverse HIV positive population, as well as treatment in the STI clinic.
  • Performing intake assessments, administering vaccines, drawing blood as needed (in the absence of the phlebotomist/clinic tech), assisting physicians with exams/procedures, making referrals, providing patient education i.e., medication adherence and treatment compliance.
  • Maintaining client/patient records and entering clinical information via Next Gen electronic health record systems.
  • Accessing community resources and making appropriate referrals as needed.
  • Communicating pertinent health information to other health care providers as needed.
  • Working collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team to deliver comprehensive care to HIV positive clients.
  • Providing coverage as needed in STI clinic.
  • Attending required staff and team meetings.
Experience:

Two (2) years of full‑time equivalent post‑licensure experience as a RN Nurse, One (1) year of which must have been in the nursing area working In Public Health clinical setting.

Education:

Graduation from a National League for Nursing accredited college or university or an equivalent program as determined by the Maryland Board of Examiners with a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.

Equivalency:

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

LICENSE:
  • Possession of a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the Maryland State, of Maryland issued by the Maryland Board of Examiners is required at the time of appointment. If the license is temporary, a regular Maryland RN license must be obtained within ninety (90) days of appointment.
