The Outreach and Strategic Partnerships Specialist supports the day-to-day operations for the American Kidney Fund’s (AKF) outreach programs and initiatives that are designed to educate and raise awareness of kidney disease, its associated risks, and address the related health disparities. Responsibilities will revolve around program implementation and executing associated deliverables among four key pillars of focus: prevention, access to home dialysis treatments, clinical trials, and kidney transplantation.

This position will work collaboratively with internal departments and with external partner representatives. These programs are intended to engage the public and allied health professionals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Provides logistical support for kidney disease outreach, education and prevention projects, programs and initiatives.
  • Assists the Associate Director of Outreach and Strategic Partnerships and the Director of Outreach and Strategic Partnerships in the delivery of programs and projects by performing formative research and analysis, literature reviews, and evaluating best practices.
  • Contributes to the development and execution of project plans, timelines, tasks, written reports, and post project analyses and reporting.
  • Updates and manages program and project related documents and spreadsheets.
  • Delivers educational presentations to constituents, partners, and the public to increase awareness about the American Kidney Fund and the educational and prevention services available to the community.
  • Assists Associate Director in identifying and cultivating relationships with regional and national partners to increase impact of AKF initiatives related to kidney disease and health disparities.
  • Collaborates in the collection and analysis of program evaluation data. Develops reports summarizing the impact of projects and programs.
  • Proactively provides recommendations for improvements on project and program processes.
  • Assists Associate Director in conducting participant follow-up activities including mailing participant letters, telephone contact, and survey administration.
  • Proactively provides recommendations for program and project improvement, including changes to processes and deliverables.
  • Assists in the evaluation of programmatic health equity frameworks.
  • Provides logistical support for all planned activities, including small- and large-scale events, exhibits, and outreach programs.
  • Assists with the development of internal and external reports.
  • Provides administrative support for other programmatic activities as needed.
  • Bachelor’s degree in health-related or behavioral science field required in public health, health education, health promotion, community health, behavioral sciences, or related discipline.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of relevant experience in non-profit sector or another professional environment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the impact of health disparities on chronic disease prevalence among communities of color, specifically in relation to diabetes, hypertension and kidney disease.
  • Knowledge of health literacy principles, plain language standards, cultural competency, behavior change theory, and essentials of project management preferred.
  • Must have excellent research and communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Must be well-organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to successfully manage several deliverables simultaneously to meet varying deadlines.
  • Experience communicating with various levels of professionals through both verbal and written correspondence.
  • Strong project and program management skills a plus.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish a plus.
  • Advanced level of proficiency in Microsoft Office required.
  • Demonstrated ability to be highly flexible, provide exemplary customer service, and work independently and in a team environment.
  • Valid driver's license required, with dependable transportation.
  • Ability to work evening and weekend hours for occasional special events.
  • Ability to lift materials and boxes up to 30 lbs.
  • Position is located in the AKF National office in Rockville, MD.
