IT Support, Systems Administrator
As an Onsite Network Engineer, you will provide onsite support services via regular scheduled proactive visits to your assigned clients in the Washington DC metropolitan area. You will ensure the smooth operation of the client environment and address any escalated issues. You will work closely with clients to ensure their network infrastructure is running smoothly and efficiently, and that system changes are documented promptly.
You will take a hands-on approach to troubleshoot and resolve network issues onsite. You will contribute to project teams for your clients and others, designing and implementing solutions that enable our clients to meet their business objectives.
In this role you will report to the Manager of Engineering Services but operate with minimal supervision. When you are faced with a new challenge, you will be able to rely on the expertise of your colleagues for technical advice and support. You will also participate in a regular On Call rotation, providing emergency support to clients outside of normal business hours.
Engineers at Optimal often work together on projects to leverage individual expertise and to learn new skills (from design and build of new servers or systems to deploying new networks for office moves).

- Quickly and accurately identifying client needs and seeing the appropriate solution through from design to completion and documentation.
- Serving as an expert resource to our clients, and to our internal staff for various tasks and projects.
- Mastering a wide range of network environments and continuing to expand your skillset as the technology landscape evolves.
- Assist IT Strategic Consultants in driving project deliverables and outcomes.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Mandatory
- Strong knowledge of customer service practices and procedure
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, able to translate technical issues to non-technical people, in written, verbal, and non-verbal communications
- Strong troubleshooting, problem solving and diagnostic skills
- Demonstrated in-depth experience deploying, supporting, maintaining, and administering:
Microsoft Windows Desktop Operating systems, Microsoft Windows Server products (2016, 2019, 2022), Hypervisor technologies (Hyper-V, VMware), Microsoft Azure Cloud based services (IaaS virtual computing, storage, and networking), Microsoft collaboration and productivity tools Microsoft 365, Other key IT systems / technologies critical to business operations, Practical experience in networking support including firewalls, switches, routers etc. (preferred exposure to Sonic Wall, Meraki, Cisco and Dell)
Desirable
- Exposure to and experience supporting Linux based operating systems
- Experience with Device Management software (Microsoft preferred: Intune, Auto Pilot)
Mandatory
- BA/BS in Information Technology or Business disciplines
- CompTIA Network+
- One or more of CompTIA Cloud+ / CompTIA Security+
- Microsoft Certified:
Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate - Microsoft Certified:
Azure Administrator Associate - VMware Certified Technical Associate (VCTA)
Desirable
- ITIL v4 Foundations Certification
- Microsoft Certified:
Azure Administrator Associate - VMware Certified Professional (VCP)
- Sonic Wall Network Security Administrator (SNSA)
- 3+ years of relevant experience.
- Consulting experience (preferred)
