Position Description

Cleans office buildings, laboratories, outside areas. Moves furniture, appliances, and/or equipment.

  • Clean, sweep, vacuum, and polish floors using a variety of tools and equipment, including hand and power scrubbing and polishing equipment, small and large vacuum cleaners, large commercial buffers, brooms, dust brushes, dust pans, wet and dry mops, bucket mops, wringers, special cleaning solutions, and chemical cleaners.
  • Clean identified or assigned areas with required cleaners and disinfecting solutions.
  • Clean walls, windows, window blinds and shades, ceilings, and doors, possibly from ladders or scaffolding.
  • Replenish towels, soap, toilet tissue, linen, and other supplies as required.
  • Inspect exterior and interior of building for service issues and report damages, malfunctions, and needed repairs to supervisor.
  • Remove trash from assigned areas, move furniture, miscellaneous equipment, supplies, and recyclable materials; empty large and small trash containers; remove debris and discarded building materials such as broken plaster, wood, and brick.
  • Maintain appropriate separation of recyclable materials.
  • Remove snow, ice, and debris from building entrances, sidewalks, and other areas as required.
  • Maintain equipment and work areas in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Observe safety precautions and properly use equipment and products.
  • Set up and remove furniture, miscellaneous equipment, and supplies required for meetings and special events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High‑school education or equivalent preferred.
  • One year or more of experience preferred.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to read and write to read labels on cleaning and detergent materials and disinfecting solutions.
  • Ability to operate large powered vacuum cleaners, cleaning and buffing equipment.
  • Ability to interact and work with faculty, students, staff, and visitors in a respectful and courteous manner.
  • Ability to lift, carry, or otherwise move and position objects and materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand, walk, or otherwise move about campus continuously.
  • Ability to ascend/descend stairs regularly to clean them.
  • Valid driver’s license preferred.
