Position: Biopharmaceutical Associate I

Location:

USA - Maryland - Rockville

The Rockville Biopharm site produces and delivers high‑quality biopharmaceutical drug substance in a safe, compliant, reliable, and cost‑effective manner for our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Preparation, cleaning, sterilization, batching, pasteurization or filtration, and delivery of media and solutions for cell culture and purification operations.
  • Perform the set‑up, operation, cleaning, and breakdown of process equipment.
  • Perform sampling procedures on various analytical instruments to analyze cell culture, solution, and product concentration characteristics; operate filter integrity devices to confirm filter integrity pre‑ and post‑use.
  • Monitor and trend process operations, equipment, and instruments to identify issues for escalation and corrective action.
  • Set up fixed and mobile process equipment and parts with CIP skids to carry out validated cleaning and sterilization processes.
  • Follow SOPs, protocols, and batch records/logbooks to document compliant processes with good documentation and data integrity practices.
  • Adhere to all safety policies; actively identify and correct unsafe behaviors and conditions.
  • Choose the most effective communication style for each situation.
  • Apply standard ERP processes in M‑ERP following global and local procedures.
  • Understand the GSK Production System (GPS) continuous‑improvement system and apply its mindsets and behaviors.
  • Manage and use automation and emerging digital platforms.
  • Use Microsoft Office Applications (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Additional Responsibilities for Higher Grades (BMA II, Sr. BMA and Lead BMA)
  • Demonstrate expertise and functional knowledge of the above areas with minimal guidance.
  • Articulate production equipment and manufacturing process problems accurately.
  • Lead the application of GPS continuous‑improvement and apply its mindsets and behaviors in problem‑solving.
  • Assist in resolving technical and process problems; identify, develop, and implement process improvements.
  • Transfer information to audiences with varying technical knowledge, ensuring clear understanding.
  • Build positive relationships and negotiate win‑win solutions.
  • Develop team capability using coaching styles, listening and questioning techniques, feedback models, and emotional intelligence.
  • Appreciate cultural differences and workplace diversity.
Basic Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Ability to work 24/7 shifts in a production operation.
  • Ability to lift and carry materials up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in a clean environment adhering to all site cleanliness standards.
  • Selection at appropriate level based on experience.
  • 1+ year of directly related manufacturing experience (BMA II).
  • 3+ years of directly related manufacturing experience (Sr. BMA).
  • 5+ years of directly related manufacturing experience (Lead BMA).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Arts, or Associate’s degree in biological sciences, chemical sciences, engineering, or equivalent technical discipline.
  • Ability to follow detailed processing instructions and document necessary information accurately.
  • Team‑working skills.
  • Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of FDA basic regulations and current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP).
