Position: Metrology Specialist I

Brief Job Overview

This hands‑on technical role within the Central Laboratory Operations (CLO) department is responsible for delivering critical laboratory support services across USP’s U.S. sites. The position oversees external calibration services and supports internal calibration and validation activities to ensure equipment is compliant, reliable, and audit‑ready. The role partners closely with laboratory operations, facilities, safety, reference standard production, and quality teams to ensure continuity of operations and timely execution of key deliverables.

The individual is expected to independently coordinate service activities, track deliverables, and ensure timely execution of calibration and validation work.

The Metrology Specialist I, has the following responsibilities:
  • Support calibration program activities by coordinating internal and external services, maintaining schedules, tracking due dates, and ensuring equipment records are accurate, compliant, and aligned with ISO, USP and applicable regulatory standards.
  • Coordinate vendor‑related activities, including scheduling onsite services, reviewing quotations and supporting contract and renewal processes, maintaining vendor documentation and qualification, and tracking service completion and performance.
  • Assist with equipment lifecycle activities such as shipment, tracking, repair follow‑up, and return to service to ensure laboratory readiness and minimize downtime.
  • Review and maintain calibration and compliance documentation (e.g., calibration certificates, maintenance records, qualification documents) to ensure accuracy, traceability, and audit readiness in accordance with USP and regulatory expectations.
  • Collaborate with laboratory, validation, and quality teams to align schedules, communicate timelines, and support operational priorities across sites.
  • Perform or assist with calibration, performance verification, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance activities to ensure instruments are reliable and fit for intended use.
  • Contribute to process improvements by identifying gaps and supporting efforts to enhance efficiency, compliance, and overall metrology operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Who is USP Looking For?

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated understanding of our mission, commitment to excellence through inclusive and equitable behaviors and practices, ability to quickly build credibility with stakeholders, along with the following competencies and experience:

  • Minimum of 1‑2 years of experience in metrology, calibration operations, instrument support, or a related laboratory or quality function where calibration was a primary responsibility.
  • Experience working in a regulated environment (e.g., cGMP, ISO) with an understanding of compliance, documentation practices, and audit readiness expectations.
  • Experience coordinating calibration activities, including scheduling services, tracking equipment status, and maintaining calibration records.
  • Experience or familiarity with calibration management systems used to track equipment, service history, and compliance data.
  • Ability to review technical documentation (e.g., calibration certificates, maintenance records) for accuracy, completeness, and traceability.
