Senior Scientist – Bioproduction & Bioprocessing

I’m partnering with an established life science technology company that is expanding its R&D team and looking for a Senior Scientist with strong upstream mammalian cell culture and protein production experience.

This is a hands-on R&D position focused on building and developing in-house bioproduction capabilities. You’ll work on both stable and transient protein production workflows
, helping translate new approaches into robust, reproducible processes that can ultimately support customers and field teams.

• Developing stable pools and cell line development workflows
  , particularly using CHO and other mammalian cell systems.
• Building and optimising transient protein and antibody production workflows
  .
• Evaluating different media, feeds, culture conditions and expression approaches.
• Supporting the development of workflows for complex and difficult-to-express antibodies/proteins
  .
• Exploring approaches including random integration and transposon-based cell line development
  .
• Creating clear SOPs and transferring scientific workflows internally to Field Applications and other customer-facing teams.
• Working closely with R&D, Engineering, Product Management and commercial teams.
• Attending scientific conferences to stay close to new developments in bioproduction and present internal research.
• Occasionally supporting field teams and customer demonstrations with deeper bioprocessing expertise.

• Strong hands-on experience in upstream mammalian cell culture and protein production
  .
• Experience with CHO and/or HEK cells
  .
• Experience with transient expression and recombinant protein or antibody production
  .
• An understanding of upstream process optimisation, including media/feed strategies and culture conditions.
• Strong scientific communication skills — someone who can explain not only what they did, but why.
• A collaborative, approachable personality suited to a closely integrated R&D environment.

This could also suit someone coming from a strong academic, NIH or research institute background who wants to transition into industry, provided they have directly relevant cell line development and protein production experience.

This is not primarily a downstream purification role — the key experience is upstream cell line development, expression and protein production.
