We are recruiting a Neuroscience Research Technician to work on-site at the National Institutes of Health in Rockville, MD.

KEY TASKS

(1) Provide support and maintenance for cell culture, genotype and cloning technology efforts for the Laboratory of Integrative Neuroscience (LIN) and other areas within the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA)

(2) Synthesize and polyadenylate mRNA; transfect cells with mRNA of plasmid DNA to produce rapid protein expression

(3) Perform technical duties and procedures such as genotyping, cell culture, transfection, DNA cloning, and other procedures assigned

(4) Serve as a core facility manager responsible for overseeing all genotyping procedures in support of LIN and other laboratories and sections

(5) Create and test cDNA constructs for molecular biological experiments

(6) Maintain cells in culture and transfect cells with cDNA constructs

(7) Prepare, organize, and maintain various lab samples, supplies, and equipment

(8) Maintain detailed accurate record keeping, as well as procurement, processing, and preservation of specimens so as to maintain sample identification and prevention of cross contamination

(9) Work safely with animal human pathogen biohazards; work with staff to maintain the research laboratory as a safe work environment operation

(10) Analyze research data and apply statistical methods such as dispersion, analysis and variance, regression and correlation analysis to assemble data in various forms for publication

(11) Train and teach laboratory staff about the methods and procedures used in the laboratory; assist students and laboratory assistants

KEY REQUIREMENTS

(1) Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Neuroscience, Biochemistry, or related scientific discipline

(2) Minimum of 3 years of hands‑on laboratory research experience in cell and molecular biology.

(3) Demonstrated specific experience with mammalian cell culture, DNA cloning, transfection, PCR‑based genotyping, and research involving transgenic or genetically modified mouse models

(4) Experience supporting overall laboratory management and operations including sample tracking, laboratory documentation, data analysis, supplies, and training,
