Candidates must possess and maintain a valid Backflow Prevention Certification as well as an active Journeyman Plumber License. The hours for this position is 6:00am to 2:30pm.

Summary

Description:

Under general supervision, provides all levels of plumbing and gas fitting and maintenance of school and building equipment systems. Based on the assigned level, this work may include analyzing, diagnosing, troubleshooting, installing, repairing, replacing, building, prefabricating, altering and maintaining equipment related to plumbing and gas fitting. Frequently works independently; may assist with the training and mentoring of other plumber/gas fitter employees.

There are two levels/grades for this position: grade 18 and grade 20. Physical Demands:
As required by the duties and responsibilities of the job. Work involves almost constant exposure to unusual elements, such as, extreme temperatures, toxic chemicals, biohazardous materials, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and/or loud noises. Considerable physical activity. Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required objects up to 50 pounds. Physical work is more than 70% of the job.

Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment. Special Requirements:
Ability to work beyond a 40-hour work week as required.

Knowledge Skills Abilities: Knowledge of principles, concepts, and methods of electrical and mechanical components of systems. Knowledge of, or ability to quickly learn, new equipment and technology requirements. Knowledge of standard equipment operating procedures and ability to perform complex system operations. Ability to correctly and safely use tools associated with the plumbing and gas fitting trades. Ability to comprehend written, verbal, and visual directions, and to communicate with others clearly.

Ability to use computers, including administrative software applications and computerized maintenance management systems. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the even core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
Education Training

Experience:

Plumber I (grade 18) - High School or GED diploma required. Successful completion of an acceptable apprentice level plumbing/gas fitting program, plus four years of progressive experience in plumbing, pipe fitting, or commercial kitchen, two years of which shall have been at the apprentice II or equivalent level. Plumber II (grade 20) - High School or GED diploma required. Successful completion of an acceptable apprentice level plumbing/gas fitting program, plus five years of progressive experience in plumbing or gas fitting, two years of which shall have been at the journey level.

Certificate License:
Possession of a valid driver's license is required for all levels. Additional certifications or licenses are required, as follows:
Plumber I:
Must possess and maintain a valid backflow certification. Plumbing II:
Must possess and maintain valid backflow certification and active journeyman license
