Medical Billing Specialist

Schedule: Monday – Friday 9a – 1p or 1p - 5p

Schedule:

Monday–Friday, standard business hours

• Prepare, review, and submit clean claims to commercial insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid
• Perform insurance follow-up on unpaid, rejected, or pended claims via payer portals and phone.
• Investigate claim denials to identify root causes and route findings for resolution; maintain denial logs.
• Post insurance and patient payments; reconcile against remittance advice (ERA/EOB).
• Contact patients to obtain missing demographic or insurance information and respond to billing inquiries with professionalism and compassion.
• Maintain strict HIPAA compliance and audit-ready billing records.
• Back up the call center or front office only if necessary; perform other duties as needed.

• High school diploma or GED required; no college degree required.
• Minimum two (2) years of hands-on healthcare billing experience required; three (3) to five (5) years preferred.
• Behavioral health, mental health, or substance use disorder billing experience strongly preferred.
• Prior authorization, insurance verification, and denial investigation experience required.
• Experience with EHR billing modules, electronic claims submission, clearinghouses, and ERA/EOB reconciliation.
• Billing or coding certification (e.g., CPB, CBCS) is helpful but not required.
• Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and clear, professional communication with payers, patients, and staff.
