Role Overview

The Registered Nurse PRN provides professional nursing care to patients within the assigned unit. The role is responsible for patient assessments, planning, supervising, interventions, and evaluations designed to prevent complications of physical disability, restore optimal functioning, and help patients adapt to an altered lifestyle. This position must integrate company values into daily practice.

Essential Functions
  • Utilize the nursing process to provide quality and efficient patient care according to established standards.
  • Ensure that professional and skilled nursing care has been provided to all patients.
  • Contribute to the development, maintenance, and update of individualized patient plans of care.
  • Implement identified plans of care in accordance with current professional standards and practices and patient needs.
  • Monitor, record, and report symptoms or changes in patients' conditions.
  • Identify patient and family learning needs.
  • Teach patients and families using effective teaching methods and document accordingly.
  • Complete all documentation in a timely manner; maintain patient clinical records and reports per hospital policy.
  • Coordinate and delegate care and treatments with the interdisciplinary team based on needs assessment.
  • Provide timely and adequate supervision to LPNs/LVNs and Nursing Aides/Techs.
  • Perform supervisory Charge Nurse responsibilities as assigned.
  • Assist with urgent and emergency situations, e.g., Code Blue and Rapid Response.
  • Identify problems and potential risks and contribute to corrective action plans.
  • Notify proper personnel of real or potential problems with patient issues and quality/appropriateness of care.
  • May be required to work during inclement weather and other staffing emergencies.
  • Provide an environment conducive to safety for patients, visitors, and staff; assess risks and implement appropriate precautions.
  • Comply with approved safety and Infection Prevention standards.
  • Maintain regular attendance and complete required trainings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support overall effectiveness of the organization.
Minimum

Job Requirements

Minimum Education & Experience
  • Successful completion of an accredited Registered Nursing program (required).
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree (preferred).
  • One (1) year recent experience (preferred); acute‑care setting preferred.
Required Licenses, Certifications, and Documentation
  • Current state license as a Registered Nurse (required).
  • Current BLS Certification (required).
  • CRRN certification (preferred).
  • ACLS certification (preferred in Texas hospitals; required if in Charge Nurse role).
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of current nursing theory and practice, infection prevention, and wound‑care standards.
  • Knowledge of accreditation standards (TJC, CMS).
  • Knowledge of clinical operations and procedures; use proper policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • General computer skills: data entry, word processing, email, records management.
  • Critical thinking skills.
  • Effective organizational and time‑management skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and complete complex tasks.
  • Ability to maintain quality, safety, and infection‑prevention standards.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work closely and professionally with others at all levels.
Physical Requirements
  • Significant standing, walking, bending, lifting, reaching, pushing, pulling for prolonged periods.
  • Lifting/exerting up to 50 lbs.
  • Possible exposure to bodily fluids.
  • Visual acuity for assessment and documentation.
  • Acute hearing for accurate assessment.
  • Prolonged standing, bending, reaching; manual dexterity for equipment and computer use.
