Job Summary

Tucker Mechanical, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of EMCOR Group, Inc., is seeking a qualified Estimator to prepare detailed and competitive cost estimates for mechanical systems in commercial and industrial construction projects. The Estimator supports the development of bid quotations and packages, working closely with internal teams, clients, and subcontractors to ensure accurate pricing and scope alignment. Tucker Mechanical is a full‑service mechanical contractor with over 65 years of experience in HVAC service, power/industrial piping, commercial/process plumbing, BIM, and CAD.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Willingness to learn how to effectively perform tasks within the established operating methodology.
  • Collect and work with historical cost data to estimate costs for current or future products.
  • Consult with clients, vendors, personnel in other departments, or construction foremen to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
  • Prepare estimates to be used by management for planning, organizing, and scheduling work.
  • Analyze blueprints and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
  • Confer with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.
  • Review contract and bid documents; review and understand scope for project turnover.
  • Attend walk‑throughs, pre‑bid, and scope clarification meetings.
  • Quantitative take‑off and computer entry.
  • Prepare scope letters and proposals.
  • Maintain relationships with customers, General Contractors, vendors, and subcontractors.
  • Perform design/build, conceptual, and budget estimates.
  • Coordinate efforts in performing take‑offs, issuing bills of material to vendors, and obtaining subcontractor quotes.
  • Assist project managers with take‑offs and pricing changes in work.
  • Escalate critical and/or sensitive issues to the Manager of Preconstruction with recommendations for resolution.
  • Comply with all company operating policies, procedures, and safety programs as established.
  • Perform additional assignments as required by the needs of the company or as directed by executives.

Preferred Education And/or Experience
  • 3+ years related experience in the construction industry.
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Knowledge of the construction industry and contract documentation.
  • Field experience / knowledge is a definite benefit.
Computer Skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Familiarity with Autobid Mechanical, Bluebeam, and/or other mechanical, technical, or construction programs is a plus.

Physical Demands

Regularly required to sit, see, talk, hear, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and comply with various vision and commuting requirements.

Work Environment

Work typically involves long periods sitting at a computer and occasional travel to field locations. Field work may involve exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, dust, fumes, chemicals, external weather conditions, and moderate to loud noise levels.
