Position SummaryAssist the Head Teacher in providing a supportive, respectful, safe and healthy environment for children enrolled in YWCA Early Learning Centers, supporting program implementation and activity development for a large group of children.
Duties / ScheduleMonday – Friday: 7 am – 8:30 am; 2:30 pm – 6 pm (flexibility with days and shifts).
Essential Functions of the Job- Assist in planning, developing and delivering varied classroom and outdoor activities to enable children to develop and grow in their individual interests and abilities and support short- and long-term program goals.
- Maintain an orderly, safe, healthy and inviting environment in accordance with accreditation, licensing and agency standards.
- Use YWCA Name To Face Accountability and Ratio sheets to ensure proper accountability and safety of children.
- Follow state and YWCA protocols for reporting suspected child abuse and neglect.
- Develop and implement curriculum that meets the physical, emotional and intellectual needs of each child.
- Support student activities, including direct participation with children, snack preparation, delivery, clean‑up, record‑keeping and monitoring of bathroom facilities.
- Communicate positively and responsively with parents.
- Maintain student information confidentially in accordance with YWCA policy.
- Assist the Head Teacher with developmental observations and assessments as outlined in program requirements.
- Manage classroom behavior with positive guidance and redirection, implement Individual Inclusion Support Plans and the YWCA Positive Guidance Policies.
- Assume daily classroom responsibilities in the Head Teacher’s absence.
- Participate in training and professional development on racial justice and women’s empowerment.
- Align programs and services with the YWCA mission of eliminating racism and empowering women.
- Education: High school junior/senior, high school diploma, or GED.
- Age: 17 years or older.
- Experience: Basic knowledge of the principles of child development; demonstrated ability to develop age‑appropriate exhibits and activities for the classroom.
- Certification: CPR/First Aid or equivalent within two months of employment.
