Job Description
AECOM is actively seeking a talented Rail Systems / Catenary Engineer for employment within the New England region. This role offers the opportunity to work side‑by‑side with career rail professionals throughout the US, delivering projects for transit clients with a focus on electrification and overhead catenary systems or OCS.
Responsibilities- Be an integral part of our world‑class rail design group
- Develop overhead catenary systems layout drawings, profiles, hanger tabulations, erection diagrams, and technical specifications
- Perform quality control reviews and design checks of railroad projects
- Lead major tasks and ensure compliance with all federal, state & local regulations related to Overhead Catenary Systems (OCS)
- Serve as a project manager on mid‑to‑large size projects, coordinating team and providing technical expertise
- Lead technical client relationships related to design, construction, and phasing of the work
- Coordinate with multiple departments related to a project’s scope of work
- Mentor staff to develop a team to support work throughout New England and beyond
- Maintain strong client relationships with clients
- Demonstrate strong analytical and communication skills
- BA/BS in Civil or Structural Engineering (or related field) plus 6 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Valid US Driver’s License required to visit project sites and other AECOM offices; must pass AECOM’s Motor Vehicle Records review
- Preferred: 10 years of experience in railway systems (Overhead Catenary Systems/Traction Power)
- Preferred: 6 years of related experience in railway (overhead catenary systems, traction power, track)
- Preferred:
Experience with AutoCAD, Micro Station, GEOPAK, Open Roads, or Open Rail - Preferred:
Experience working with Connecticut Department of Transportation, Metro‑North Railroad, Amtrak, MBTA, or other passenger/commuter railroad agencies - Preferred:
Experience working on multiple projects simultaneously - Preferred:
