Terracon is growing and seeks an entry level construction material testing technician to join our Material Services team in our Rocky Hill, CT office. Our CT Materials department services clients during the construction phase of a wide variety of projects, including power transmission lines, infrastructure upgrades, schools and colleges, retail buildings, and large distribution centers for both local and national clients throughout Southern New England.

You will have the opportunity to work on-site alongside contractors with the support of the local project management team and an in-house testing laboratory. This position is an excellent way to advance your career in the construction industry.

General Responsibilities

Perform field testing, observation, and inspection of construction materials (e.g. soils, aggregates, concrete and asphalt). Communicate with project manager, other engineering technicians, client's representative, contractor's representative and others as applicable regarding the construction site, testing, observation, and inspection requirements and results. Transport material samples with associated identifying documentation to the laboratory for further testing and analysis. Tabulate, prepare, and submit data and observation in the form digital reports as work is performed for daily transmittal to the Terracon Project Manager.

Maintain and clean equipment, and keep vehicles and work areas clean and safe.

  • Performs testing, observation, and inspection as directed in accordance with training and the specified procedures.
  • Provides clear documentation of findings and results.
  • Performs basic analysis of data to verify accuracy before communication and submittal to the Project Manager.
  • Communicates information to Project Manager and other personnel as directed by the PM.
  • Maintains assigned equipment
  • Follows safety rules and practices and other safety requirements for all projects. Performs pre-task planning prior to executing work. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
  • Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.
  • Successful completion of related internal safety certifications.

Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience with laptop computer and Microsoft word and Excel
  • Ability to obtain ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade 1
  • Ability to obtain certification

The expected salary range for this position is listed below. The base range may be adjusted based on the specific location of the applicant. Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.

$19.50 - $27.25 per hour
