Job Overview
Johnson Controls Inc. is looking for forward‑thinking talent to support the fast‑growing HVAC business in North America. The role offers an opportunity to work on light commercial and heavy commercial teams operating the most advanced heavy‑commercial and cutting‑edge industrial equipment.
Responsibilities- Serve as an HVAC mechanic with practical experience in piping, plumbing, pipe fitting, and mechanical equipment service for light‑commercial or commercial units.
- Pass any required examination to demonstrate special skills.
- Perform maintenance, repair, and replacement on commercial heating, ventilation, and air‑conditioning (HVACR) systems, including centrifugal, steam turbines, and open‑drive screw chillers.
- Provide service‑related solutions and upsell opportunities; prepare quotes and serve as a trusted advisor during commissioning and aftermarket service.
- Collaborate with Journeymen, servicemen, and apprentices to support the fast‑growing business.
- Utilize vibration equipment to troubleshoot drive lines and use dial indicators for shaft alignment of pumps, fans, and compressors.
- Must be a member or willing to join the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada, AFL‑CIO.
- Dedicated member of a North America Branch team willing to learn and be responsible for system troubleshooting, repair, and aftermarket services.
- Minimum three (3) years of commercial and/or industrial mechanical troubleshooting experience in the HVAC industry, including rooftop units, pumps, fans, towers, boilers, chillers, compressors, and plumbing.
- Experience with mechanical shaft alignment using dial indicators.
- Proficiency in using vibration equipment to troubleshoot drive lines.
- Travel required 10–20% to support branch customers.
- Ability to pass a knowledge examination to assess proficiencies.
- Strong attention to detail, interpersonal, digital, and written communication skills.
- Ability to write and communicate problem, cause, and corrective actions to customers.
- Capable of providing quotes to customers and participating in JCI’s Service Plus Rewards program.
- Self‑starter with a passion/desire to learn and apply on the job.
- Prioritizes safety in all forms.
- Holding a Universal EPA refrigerants license, applicable state or local licensing, and a valid driver’s license.
Pay range: $50.58 per hour, determined by CBA/rate sheet. Benefits are provided through a local labor union aligned with a collective bargaining agreement. The role includes factory certification through the Service Technical Academy (STA), incentive programs, a focus on employee safety, tools, uniforms, and a company vehicle.
